It's really not THAT crazy to free climb that. Why? Because they took an elevator to 1600 feet. Free climbing 1700 feet would be nuts (body couldn't take it) but the difference between free climbing a 200 foot tower and free climbing the top of a 1800 foot tower is the same. 200 feet will kill you just as easily as 1800 will. Just because the ground is further away doesn't make it any more "risky" than the lower level climbs.

My knees knocking tells me there is a difference I'd want two hooks. So there always be one hooked to something.

And when is the last time you slipped off a ladder.

I don't remember because it was probably only 4 ft off the ground
