I agree that something sounds fishy, but I think Friday hit the nail on the head.
Even those with psychological disorders can think things through sufficiently to support their intended actions - even to plan for the cover up.
Too bad her disorder wasn't identified/treated before she maimed herself permanently.
I think this woman still deserves simpathy, just not for being the victim of a crime. She is going to need a lifetime of medical treatment and the effects of her state will only serve to cause her additional psychological distress.
She'll be needing a LOT of therapy.
