Southern Colorado Gun Sales

Guys,
Quick question: I have a home in the mountains just west of Trinidad and one in Minnesota. I will be moving down to the Colorado home next spring and trying to figure out if I should buy a couple guns I have my eye on here in Minnesota, or wait to get down to Colorado and spend my money with merchants there. If I were to buy the guns in Colorado, where would be the closest and best places to shop to Trinidad? Any recommendations? I thought I might price those places and if they are close to the same, wait until I get down to Colorado to buy.
That plan is complicated by the fact that I stopped in to Big R in Trinidad last week while I was there, and got a really confusing story from the woman behind the gun counter there. Apparently she says she can't sell me either a handgun or a rifle (she kept changing the item and I never did figure out which it was) without a Colorado driver's license (currently have a Minnesota driver's license since we live most of the year up here). Anyone enlighten me on what the real story is? I certainly wasn't aware that guns were state-specific in terms of sales? Otherwise maybe I have to buy in Minnesota and move the stuff down. Thanks!

I think you just have to establish residence, I bought a gun with an electric bill and a fishing license once

As a resident of MN you can buy a long gun in Colorado without a Colorado license as long as you comply with CO and MN law. You can buy a handgun only in your state of residence.

Federal law allows people to purchase guns in any state as long as they comply with the laws of their state of residence and the state where the purchase is made.

CO law simply says persons from states contiguous to CO can buy long guns in CO. It doesn't say that persons from states not contiguous to CO cannot buy long guns in CO. So as long as MN law allows you to buy long guns out of state you're good to go.

However, if you choose to buy in CO and list your residence as being in CO you'll have to have a CO license.

So Technically, if you have an address here in Colorado and you had a Drivers license or even a State issued Identification Card... you could buy here.

The woman at Big R was slightly wrong. You as a resident of MN may certainly buy a LONG GUN (not a hand gun) here in CO through an FFL dealer with no problem just as long as the transfer would comply with the laws/requirements in your home State.. Big R would merely have to have you fill out the Form 4473, they'd make the back ground check contact and you'd have your long gun, after you pay for it of course. After you pay for it, they will hand carry it to the door for you to continue on your way. I live in Trinidad and am pretty familiar with their store. They do have another strange policy and that is that they will not furnish a blank Form 4473 for the customer to take along home for ANY reason. When asked why, they responded that CBI would not allow it and they have to account for each blank Form 4473 that CBI furnishes. Now we all know that CBI does not normally furnish those forms - the U.S. Government furnishes em. Their store/their policy so it's rather difficult to try to convince them that they are wrong.

soco11, as info, there is a gun show up in Pueblo on October 9th and 10th so you should certainly have no problem getting a LONG GUN at that show if you locate the one that you want. I'll be there.

CO license - do you mean a drivers license??
Got to keep in mind that some folks (damn few) do not drive so would have no need for a drivers license. Of course there are other means of valid ID.
