Dem 3/53's are good for some noise, I was surprised to see it pull anything uphill though.

No need to build one, Jeep made and sold them until 2007.

    28mpg and this 2005 is only $12k

Now it is no CJ or YJ.. but then again I don't really like Jeep... LOL

    There's also the mini-version... a VW 1.9L TDI in a Suzuki Samurai...

supposed to be good for around 40mpg

but if you're over 6', you'll have to lose some height somewhere...

i used to build quite a few jeeps for family and friends. we put a diesel in a cj. i cant remember the numbers but it was a cummins out of a bark grinder. i think they have the same as the skid steers. it wasnt too heavy for a diesel.

of course it had a 60 front and 70 rear. full width.

    That'd be an awesome setup!
Must've been an A-series Cummins... the 4B weighs as much as a big-block Chevy, with 1/2 the cylinders!

    I've wanted to put a 4BT (or even 6BT- long & heavy, tho) into the wife's '97 Suburban (it's a 2500, already has hydro-boost steering)

    Only Jeep I'd want a diesel in is a M715. Jeep did make a CJ5 in diesel called a DJ5 export only. My old '67 CJ6 had a Buick 225 V6,,the Dauntless. Was an odd fire V6,replaced it with a 4.3,,and a NP435 4sp.
When Buick sold the 225 V6 to Jeep.they sold the aluminum V8 215 to Land Rover.
