Beretta PX4 Storm?

Does anyone who owns a PX4 Storm have any opinions on it? I can't seem to find much of anything on this site. That could be either really good, or really bad I was just wondering.

I'm looking at my options for my first handgun (looking at compacts, not sub-compacts). XD's and Glocks are obviously popular. Where's the love for Beretta?

Is the PX4 Storm that bullpup looking thingy? I haven't heard anything about it either. I've yet to actually see one in person so I'd be interested in thoughts about it as well. As far as the the Beretta handguns, they are popular and even have a military contract. I'm sure there are several folks on here who have some.

I guess you hear about XD's and Glocks so much is because of the fan culture.

I had a PX4 Storm SC 9mm. I loved it the thing other than being a little too bulky for me to carry comfortably. I fired ~200 rounds through it with no mishaps. I've thought about getting a full size just to have. I believe the full size PX4s have the rotating barrel which I find attractive.

Everything I have read has been very good, I think, I might be wrong, Is that candada's rangers(I think there also called mounty, the guys with the red coats) took a cotract out with Beretta for these pistols. IMO the price of factory mags make or brakes it for me.

I have a friend with a full size PX4 Storm in 9mm. It does have the rotating barrel and he really likes it. It has never had any problems and I've seen him shoot very accurately with it.

Thanks for the info all; that's about what I figured.

BTW, the full and compact have a rotating barrel, whereas the SC has a fixed barrel.

I guess I'm looking for something that I could carry if I needed to. It will mainly be a range gun anyway. Honestly, I haven't yet decided between compact and full.

We just built a Slim holster for one and while I haven't shot it, it does sit nice in the hand. The sight alignment for me at least was just as natural as my Glocks. I'll say this though, it is bulkier than a Glock, dimensionally it is wider from the trigger guard to the top of the breach (important to me while making the holster, not so important to others) but over all, for what it is, a mid framed gun, I'm sure it would fit the bill. I'm not rushing out to buy one, but I wouldn't be upset if someone gifted me one

I think for carry, unless you're a bigger framed guy then it could have issues concealing outside the waste band, which is why my customer was switching to the slim holster from a leather Desantis OWB. He noted that it wasn't exactly comfortable to carry in the holsters he has for it IWB, didn't ask what he was using for that. I'll just sell him the IWB version of the Slim later

Thought I'd add my 16 cents about the px4 storm.

I have owned my PX4 Storm .45acp for right at 2 years. It has been a daily carry piece except for when exercising or when I need something for deep concealment. I am 6'1 230 pounds. I carry in a Desantis Tuck This II (mainly because it doesn't have belt hooks that are obvious that you're carrying.) It has a very smooth draw. I carry Ranger T +P ammo. I practice with a mixture of Ranger T's and WWB. (I feel if you carry +P ammo you should practice with it due to the difference in how your weapon fires. )

So the good stuff. I have put approx 2400 rounds through it. I have had only 1 FTF in this weapon. I consider this extremely lucky that out of that round count only 1 was a dud. I have had NO FTE or loading issues. I have used wad cutters, hollow points, FMJ.

When I first purchased the weapon (NEW) I had my local gunsmith assist me with sighting the weapon. We added loc-tite to the rear and front sights since they are dove tailed in. I have not had to adjust anything on the sights since then. I shoot in a six o'clock hold. I have shot it enough that I feel it is extremely accurate, and dependable enough to protect my life. As far as the glow in the dark night sights... obviously trijicon would be nice. but a quick (1 second) hit of my light on them, lights them up well in the dark. I practice my shooting with flashlight in hand so it works for me.

If the front sight looks dirty from cleaning or shooting try using some windex on a q-tip for a few minutes. It should do the trick.

As far as the wear and tear on the weapon. I have what I would call normal carrying marks. The front sight and around the slide.

Wear from shooting...basic spots from where metal on metal touching when firing happens and also from the rotating barrel. There are no extreme grooves or defined areas of friction. I'm sure if I were to measure with a caliper it would show some difference from a fresh barrel and other moving parts. The slide isn't anymore loose than I remember when I first purchased the gun. The barrel is still very tight. The trigger still has a good amount of stiffness when in D/A, however it feels a bit lighter when S/A.

I typically carry a 9 rd mag plus one in the pipe. Also I carry 2-10 round back up mags. With all of my magazines the spring is very stiff at the beginning but with use it settles to a decent stiffness.

I have had no real concerns with the px4 storm .45. The rotating barrel makes the .45 acp an enjoyable round to practice with on the regular. I have added a pachmayer rubber grip sleeve to my weapon. I really enjoy it.

I think that's more than my 2 cents on this weapon but if you have any other questions feel free to ask and I'll give my opinion on it.

The .45 ACP doesn't come in the type C variant, much to my sadness I'm not too familiar with DAO/SAO triggers, other than that I know I don't like two different pulls in a combat situation. If you manually drop the hammer and carry it as such, will that effectively make it single action?
