Default starting over at competitive shooting

i havent shot a service rifle match in over 10 years, havent shot a 3d archery tournament in 15 years, never shot a pistol competition of any kind, havent shot sporting clays in 15 years. this next year i want to get back into some competitive shooting, i have a rifle for service rifle, a .22 target rifle for 50' bullseye, and my hunting bow, and a good shotgun finally. i would really like to get back into it, but driving 2 hours one way is a little cost prohibitive. anybody else want to do some competitive shooting this year over here? i heard about the range in hotchkiss and am willing to go that far, i have a friend in crawford so it could be a double purpose trip.
my ar15 that i would use for service rifle does not have a free floated handguard, anybody got one that they want to get rid of? it has been so long since i shot a lot that i feel like a beginner, anybody else want to shoot poorly along side me?

I told myself I'd shoot a competition once a month this whole year. I've only done one. I'm so disappointed, but stuff seems to come up a lot more often when you are unemployed.

Where are you located? I don't do competitions (cause I suck! lol) due to time and money but I do like to get out to the range when I can... though it's been a month or two since I've been able too...

There is a lot of stuff going on over there...but the Western Slope is huge, let us know where you are at exactly. I shoot one or two matches a month in Rifle.

i am near carbondale, rifle is about an hour drive. i have no problem going to rifle to shoot. i am more interested in rifles than shotguns or handguns, but all practice is good. some friends are really into idpa, but have never invited me. not sure if that is my cup of tea, but willing to give it a try. i would like to shoot service rifle, maybe silhouette, sporting clays, and who knows what else.

There is a NRA High Power match next Saturday in Rifle. I typically shoot their action pistol, which is IDPAish, and the precision rifle which is prone out to about 800 yards. Here is their calendar...it's not the best but it's pretty good. You can always email the division guys and get more info from them.

Side note: I grew up in Glenwood. I love the valley, especially this time of year when the colors start to change.

i dont see highpower listed for next weekend, but do see lever gun silhouette on the 17th, and bpcr on the following saturday. would like to do both, but will be hunting with a buddy on the 17th, and then probably guiding a friend on the next saturday.
can a guy just show up for some of those? i would definitely be into the bpcr, (although i dont load black powder), and the lever gun silhouette, would give a shot at action pistol.
