Default I hate thieves... (they stole my starter/alternator)

So I had a fun day with my 77 Jimmy. Apparently I live in the ghetto part of north/west Lakewood.

I could not get it to start, I mean it was dead (No door dings, and etc). I try jumping it, nothing, not even the dome light. I crawl under it to look at the starter and found a neat surprise . I have no Starter, the wires were all hastily cut and the whole thing is gone. Then I look in engine compartment and the alternator is gone too. Same story, the wires all cut and the bracket and alternator is gone. They left the belts at least. They got into the engine compartment easy since the older trucks hood latch is in the front of the grill.

They didn’t even try for the High Lift jack bolted to the front bumper, or anything inside.

Such a weird thing to steal.

I live off 6th and Union in Lakewood. The Jimmy was parked on the street for maybe two weeks (It's my extra/winter/camping car)

    Leaves the Jimmy completely inoperable.

Just had to rant, going to call a few shops and see what it might cost me to replace the wiring and starter/alternator. Of course no power mean I don’t think I can even tow it to a shop.

    I hate thieves...

That's not even a real bad area of Lakewood either.

Have Ogenwrot explain how your insurance will replace it.

Sorry Ogen, you know it was bound to happen and someone was going to stick you with it

I am with Gunner, you are probably better off with a wiring kit and some replacements
The hard part might be the Alternator Bracket though... you may be heading to a junkyard to replace that.

    Damn. That sucks man.

I live on 6th and Kipling. I don't consider it to be a bad neighborhood really. However, my roommate (the house owner) received some Lakewood news letter that stated the highest theft area of Lakewood was between Colfax and 6th, Garrison and Union. I didn't see it but he just told me that last week. Sweet.

Sounds like they wanted it for the copper windings...

Does it have a SB 350? The bracket shouldn't be hard to find. Replacing the parts isn't too hard and would take under an hour.

Thieves suck. Feel grateful all they nabbed was relatively inexpensive. A few years ago there was a lot of catalytic converters being stolen for the platinum. One of the gals my wife worked with got hers stolen in a 2 hour span in daylight parked right next to my wifes ride. $1100.00 replacement cost. Some of the customers in the neighborhood got theirs popped also.
We were lucky and they never touched the wifes ride. DPD ended up catching 2 tweekers in the act a week later with a cordless SawzAll.

I'd like to do it myself. But there are two issues time & space. It's stuck where it sits (the street). Most likely I'll do it myself.
