Default Shipping a firearm from out of state

My uncle left me a 300 win mag and my dad black powder rifle when he passed away in March. The guns are in Georgia. How would we go about getting them to us does it matter that te guns are in his name and he is no longer around?

as far as I know the registrations are irrelevant as they are no longer tracked.
Any Legal Adult may transfer them FFL to FFL or through UPS to an FFL.
One MUST be involved somewhere as it is an interstate transfer.

Okay so the real question is just how to ship it. Finding an FFL is not the issue

Have the executor of the estate take them to a FFL down there and just have them shipped and transferred to your FFL. There are some special provisions in the regulations regarding inheritance but I am not certain what they are. I will try to find them a bit later.

As far as shipping I have used UPS and FedEx. I prefer FedEx as the chain of custody is better. The package is signed for every time it changes hands from what I have been told.

Is the black powder a muzzleloader...if so i am pretty sure they don't require an ffl.
the other needs to be shipped to an ffl and transferred y
    to you.
you can also call the atf and they will be able to lead you in the right direction. There are a lot of times provisions that allow them to be handed down, even class 3 stuff

    Default second what Sniper7 said

Like Sniper7 advises call the ATF. There are many exceptions concerning transferrs of a "bequest or intestate succeccion".

OR you are legally able to ship a firearm from yourself to yourself. I'd go UPS with the people on the other end addressing them that way. completly legal, ask the ATF if you have any concerns. My SIL did this when he was transferring from one coast to the other with his rifles.

    TITLE 18 > PART I > CHAPTER 44 > § 922

    § 922. Unlawful acts
    How Current is This?
    (a) It shall be unlawful—

    ...

    (3) for any person, other than a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector to transport into or receive in the State where he resides (or if the person is a corporation or other business entity, the State where it maintains a place of business) any firearm purchased or otherwise obtained by such person outside that State, except that this paragraph (A) shall not preclude any person who lawfully acquires a firearm by bequest or intestate succession in a State other than his State of residence from transporting the firearm into or receiving it in that State, if it is lawful for such person to purchase or possess such firearm in that State, (B) shall not apply to the transportation or receipt of a firearm obtained in conformity with subsection (b)(3) of this section, and (C) shall not apply to the transportation of any firearm acquired in any State prior to the effective date of this chapter;
Provided the guns are legal in both states (in this case, they are, btw), then the executor can ship them right to your door here, no FFL required. You can provide them the above citation (18 USC 922 (a) (3) (A) ) as proof that no FFL is required.

+1 Or just dont tell them whats in the boxes. Thats what the UPS store told me to do when shipping a rifle. Just insure them properly either way.
