M1A Scope Mount

I've only just begun to research what kind of scope mount I'd like to get for my M1A. I've read that these generally have had problems holding zero. Springfield Armory has their 4th gen. scope mounts out and they're supposed to be better than before but I'm having problems finding detailed reviews on them. The one detailed review I found was far from positive. I've considered just grabbing an extended cluster rail which would accomodate a bi-pod as well but I want to make sure I explore all my options.

Does anybody have any experience with this subject? Thanks!

Mounts for a M1A are a bit of a pain. This is one place you really get what you pay for. The Springfield mounts aren't too bad for an alloy mount. The initial mounting to the rifle is the most critical step if you want the mount to hold zero for an alloy mount. The alloy essentially has to "cold flow" into the grooves of the receiver and most people would totally freak if they saw how it is done.
Don't waste your money on an imported mount or a used one. Neither will fit your particular rifle well.
Top of the line is the Smith mounts. You have to either provide some very accurate measurements to Smith or send the rifle to them. The mount is custom made for the individual receiver.

Thanks guys. I just looked at the Smith Enterprise site and they seem to have some really quality products.

I feel confident that if I would be able to provide Smith with extremely accurate dimensions of my receiver if need be so that doesn't worry me.

I'm contimplating the Troy M14 Modular Chassis System as well. In my head I keep saying "Well if I'm gonna drop $300 for a scope mount why not just put that money into a Try MCS?". Amazing how you can talk yourself into things like that.

I have my M1A in a Troy MCS. Good quality product. Really opens up the range of optics you can use on your rifle. Holds zero no matter what.

Nice. Do you have any pics you could post? I'd love to hear specifics on your set up if you don't mind. No biggie if you don't care to. The only thing that looks weird to me in the pictures on the website is how the grip doesn't snug up against rear of the trigger guard. Thoughts on this? Thanks man.
