So I only ever listened to his radio show, but thought he did good stuff. At least 3 people have told me he is a joke. I don't have any ties to him or anything, and now I'm really curious. Please educate me.

I think he's a total douche as well. One time he was decent, but now he's all about the bucks and as long as you have enough of them you can be on his "referral list". Everyone I have ever called from his list were crooks - they did good work but really raked you over the coals, just like Martino. Now I call Angies list and the folks I call have been the absolute best and the fairest pricing. Screw Martino, he's a has been washout.

On a personal note, I bumped into him at the Belmar festival last year in Lakewood and not only was he THAT guy who was muscling his way though a VERY thick crowd with his massive yuppie double wide stroller and being a dick, but he slammed into my fiance and didn't apologize or anything, just kept moving along.

Troubleshooter list is a list of companies who are willing to pay $5000/mo (7 years ago rate..who knows what it is now) to avoid being 'investigated' etc etc. To me it's more like a blackmail. Call his website and find out yourself.

When I was going to have my driveway and patio concrete poured I had 2 of his list subscribers (Refferal list) companies come out and give me estimates. Both were considerably higher than any of the other 5 companies that gave me estimates. And not higher by a couple hundred bucks either but multiple thousands higher.
Now get this-I had a railroad tie retaining wall about 2' high that was going to be replaced as part of the driveway work. The company that was highest was one of his referral list companies and he had the crass to tell me that I would be responsible for tearing out and disposing of the ties and the ensuing dirt work.
I told the owner of the company that for the kind of money he was going to charge me the only work I was going to do was open the cooler and lift a beer while I watched him work.

I don't know if I would put the kabosh on everything he does. In some consumer issues I have heard him really do some good for people that had gotten burned.
But you had better have your ducks in a row and your documentation in order. He can really be a dick if somebody does not have a clear case. Especially if they were complacent or ignorant going into the issue in question.
