Default Where Can I Rent a Denver Boot? Or Other Way to Keep Somebody at Work

My boss' wife called me and asked if I could get him to stay late at work Friday. It's his birthday and she has some special surprise planned and can't get there until a bit later than our usual leaving.

I was thinking about trying to fake some awful crisis but it wouldn't work. He's basically a decent guy and when stuff happens late in the day he usually says to deal with it the next day.

I was thinking about letting the air out of one of his tires and bringing a pump with me but I don't want to damage it.

That's when I thought of a Denver boot. That would certainly keep him from driving away. Anybody have one I could rent?

If not - any suggestions? It has to be legal and not damaging to anything.

How late do you need to keep him?

Boot idea probably wouldn't be good as IIRC it is illegal for private parties to possess.
Do you have an accomplice that can double park behind him or "break down" where it would block him in?
Flat tire idea always works, especially if your wife can convince him that you have an air tank or similar and you can milk it for extra time.
What kind of work does he do?

I need to keep him for an hour to 90 minutes. I'm in the Tech center. Blocking him in wouldn't work since he has a new fancy car. He parks it at the far end of the parking lot where nobody is close to him. I suppose 4 of us could block him in but it would be suspicious.

Actually, letting air out wouldn't work since he has run flats.

Do you know a cop or a tow truck driver who could "take" the car for an hour or so?

    Siphon out his gas?

Get the keys and park it somewhere else?

    Pull all his starter plugs?

I was going to suggest spray painting his windshield, so he'd have to scrape if off with a razor to be able to drive. However, paint of any kind next to a nice car is a big no no. I thought of soap like high school kids use to write all over their cars, but that wipes off way too easily.

I think with a nice new car, you may want to look into ideas that don't actually involve the car, as that is just bad juju.

If you know the business well enough to make a fake call, you could call the line for deaf people and that could take up some time. You just log on with a translator, and type out everything you want them to say, then they have to read it to the person you had them call. That might be a good way to make a normal call much longer, and you won't have to worry about cracking up under pressure since it is all in type.

Agreed, even as a joke, I wouldn't screw with someones car. That's a good way for feelings to get hurt, and if someone spray painted my windows, I would kick their ass and key their car

I could get a spare set of keys from his wife but if I just did something like hide the car, he'd call the cops. If I did something obvious like disconnect the battery, he'd figure it out in a second. His Dad was a mechanic and he does all his work on his cars.

We're engineers in the broadcast biz. Right now, I'm talking to company admin about a fake demand to keep him here. Something like the fire marshall wanting something from us by close of business Friday or such. We have a data center filled with high end computer equipment.
