"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."
—Jeff Cooper, The Art of the Rifle

Because we aspire to by this, "America is a shining city upon a hill whose beacon light guides freedom-loving people everywhere"
Because we know that even a shitty political compromise beats sending our kids off to die in foreign lands.
Because we sought to spread our ideals of peace and prosperity with the world.
I'm terribly disappointed that we've strayed so far of course. Seems I can't go a day without finding a thread that starts off with "level the building". Lethal force: It's a last resort. Everyone here should be particularly clear on that fact.
Yes, other country will try and pick the splinter out of our eye. You cannot expect us to criticize other countries (Iran, China, Russia) and not have them respond. I much prefer Ahmejinidad coming here and talking smack than having to send more US troops into Iran. There's some slim chance the change will come to Iran, even if we have to simply wait for younger generations to come to power.
It seems there was a time when other countries aspired to be what we were; and we're slowly becoming a cautionary tale. Participation in the U.N. is one of the (relatively small number of) things I disagree with Ron Paul about.

What ever happened to, “Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checked by failure...than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.”
I guess nowadays its, "Far better to compromise, to pussyfoot around, even though it never accomplishes anything..."
Also, I'm not sure how familiar you are with history but once upon a time there was something like the UN called the League of Nations. They shared your views on compromise. It didn't work out.
