Threads with "working up a load" in the title make me nervous.
I was reviewing this thread and realized I never updated it. So, I going to resurrect it from the deadand add some to it.
I did retest the 44.2 gr loads. The did the exact same thing as in the previously posted pics. I did get a little more accurate second test, but 44.2 starts to show deviation from the accuracy node, just barely. So I settled on 44.0 gr of Varget for this combination. I've shot these reloads for about 1k rounds now and they are crazy accurate resulting in 1/2" groups consistently OUT OF TWO DIFFERENT GUNS. Ya, that was a nice bonus when I test them in my AICS.
I also started making batches of ammo with Win brass. I followed the exact same sequence to test them and found 44.2gr of Varget was the most accurate. Another bonus was they printed on paper dead on the Lapua brass rounds and had the exact same velocity. Basically, the Lapua cases are thicker and so take 0.2 gr less powder. 308 Win is such a forgiving caliber. It's been the easiest caliber for me to find good reloads for out of the 12+ calibers I have reloaded.
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.
Anyone that thinks war is good is ignorant. Anyone that thinks war isn't needed is stupid.
Good refresher I read this when you first posted it and am glad I found it again. 2 new bullet weight loads to work up before the third saturday in April
