Need Opinions: JP Enterprises Reduced Power Trigger Spring Kit

So I've been wanting to upgrade my trigger for a while to something a bit lighter. But frankly, I can't quite justify the $170 for a Giessele at the moment. I've been really intrigued with the JP Enterprises Reduced Power Trigger Spring Kit that I've seen on MidwayUSA, for $10.

Now, I know most of you are saying "$10, that's nothing just give it a shot and tell US how it works!" however any time I've tried to order it, they are Out of Stock on Backorder. Does that mean that these trigger spring kits are awesome, or that they only get a handful in at a time?

They let me know they received some more in stock yesterday and by the time I got home to actually order one, they were out of stock again. Will these spring kits provide any reliability issues that you have experienced or can think of? Are they really worth the $10 or should I just buy lots of ammo and get used to the heavy trigger pull of my factory S&W M&P15OR?

I tried to use one with a full hammer and got several light primer strikes. I would only use it if you cut the tail off the hammer.

Light primer strikes are a reality with RP hammer springs, especially if it is a 308. Plus they do not address creep/takeup.

While I haven't tried just the spring kit, I have a full JP kit in one of my AR's, and the slightly less comprehensive kit (the one where you use your own hammer, and bob it) in another. I love them both, but both have lightened hammers so they may not work on military primers. I like them better than a Gissele, and definitely better than Rock Rivers, but that's just me. I think they are crisper and have a better overall feel.

Because their cheapest shipping is $8.50, almost the same cost as the spring kit itself. And it's just not that worth it to me.

Well, I ended up ordering one from Brownell's last week and it arrived today. I got it installed in just a few minutes, decided to follow the directions and polish the sear to as mirrored of a surface as I could get it. Finally decided I had had enough of that and just wanted to know how much it lightened the trigger pull.

I've got to say, I'm quite impressed with it! It is significantly lighter than before, and for just $10 I'm VERY pleased. Perhaps it's because the trigger pull is so much lighter that I can actually feel it now, but it feels as though I have a two stage trigger now. If I pull slowly, I can feel a first stage that is basically a take-up stage, then when I pull a bit more the firing pin releases. I know it's not a true two-stage trigger, but for the price I paid I can't argue. It's time to see how well it lasts and the quality of it.

It is going to be a week or two before I can test it out, but I'm hoping to get to the range soon to see how much it improves my accuracy (by me not pulling the rifle trying to pull the trigger). Either way, I'm glad I spent the money finally to test it out, I'll update once I get to the range.

I've done the sear polishing on one of mine that still has a stock trigger, and it does make quite a difference. I only polished the area that engages the hammer, though. JP does makes great stuff.

With how impressed I am with just the spring kit, I'd say spend the $10 on the spring kit first and a good sear polishing. You may realize it's exactly what you needed and will quit there...that's what I did!
