First off, im probably old enough to be your grandfather, im a 20 yr veteran of the UNITED STATES AIR FORCE, a specialist in Catastrophic Disaster Managment, and the last thing i am is enamoured or as you put it, hung up on one book, I SIMPLY MENTIONED IT HERE IN CASE SOMEONE WHO HAD NOT READ IT MIGHT ENJOY IT....

MY FIRST POST AND SECOND ONE HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH EACH OTHER, IN THE FIRST ONE I MENTIONED A GOOD BOOK....

IN THE SECOND ONE I MADE A STATEMENT OF FACTS THAT STAND EVEN IF THE BOOK HAD NEVER BEEN PRINTED...

YOU MADE THAT ASS-UMPTION IN YOUR OWN MIND, THEN SPEWED IT HERE EXPECTING EVERYONE ELSE TO BUY INTO IT, somehow i dont think that happend

MOST PEOPLE HERE REALIZE THAT THE DAY THAT THE IRANIANS POP OFF A NUKE 150 MILES OVER THE EASTERN SEABOARD OR
THE MIDWESTERN USA, THE EMP BLAST WILL SET THIS COUNTRY BACK TO THE 1900's in about 10 seconds, the resulting societal breakdown and chaos WILL HAPPEN EXACTLY AS STATED. Perhaps you are not aware that the Iranians are less than 2 years from a working warhead, assuming they dont buy one first, AND SINCE THEY PUT A SATELLITE IN SPACE A COUPLE MONTHS AGO, THEIR DELIVERY SYSTEM IS NOW OPERATIONAL,

ALL THEY NEED IS ONE OF THOSE OCEAN SHIPPING CONTAINER MOBLE LAUNCH PLATFORMS THE RUSSIANS ARE NOW SELLING ON THE OPEN MARKET TO HIDE THEIR EMP NUKE IN..AND SAIL IT INTO A U.S. HARBOR..

IF YOU THINK THEY WOULDNT TRY IT... JUST REMEMBER 9-11

SO YOU READ THE BOOK 10 YEARS AGO, BIG DEAL SO WHAT...MABY..YOU NEED TO READ IT AGIAN...

FACTS ARE FACTS, AFTER AN EMP ATTACK IT WILL TAKE 3 TO 7 DAYS FOR SOCIETY TO COMPLETLY DEGENRATE BEYOND REPAIR, THE FEDERAL GOVT WILL DO NOTHING TO STOP IT, THEY WILL JUST DEAL WITH IT IN THEIR MANY WAYS, ALL PREPLANED,PRACTICED, PREPAIRED, I THINK WHAT YOU DONT GET IS THAT IF IT GOES DOWN... ITS EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF ...
AND IT WONT BE PRETTY....THOSE ARE REAL FACTS SONNY....AND LIKE I SAID THEY STAND EVEN IF THE BOOK WAS NEVER PRINTED.

    YOU HAVE A NICE DAY

    Thanks for rescuing us all.

What is the effective range of a nuke anyway? I've always wondered that. If one went off in Denver, would people in Colorado Springs be safe? Salt Lake City? Is the EMP effective range different than the radiation range? Doesn't the radiation range increase over time? How much time do you have if you are on the raged edge? What is the edge?

When I asked for this forum they warned me about this. I am going to ask that you calm down or your time may be short here. Ranting and raving about the sky falling does not make it so.

another good one is Out of the ashes
    http://www.amazon.com/Out-Ashes-Will.../dp/0786002891

Its the first part of a VERY large (20 plus books I belive) series but can be read as a single novel. I highly reccomend it. I have personally read it 6 or 7 times. Its about post apocaliptic America and follows one man around as he rebuilds a very succesfull colony out of the ashes. It gets real preachy at times, but usually its just bashing liberals so its easy to deal with. Actually has alot of good ideas in it too, though its mostly fantasy. Oh yeah its got a SHIT-TON of guns and action, ya know what? Im gonna read it again this weekend!

Just finished Patriots- it's a little too fictional for me to take seriously. A feel good book for Patriotic gun/ammo hoarders.

If you are talking about "Patriots" I will agree. Now I liked the book and depending on how you look at it... It has many "tips and tricks" that have been discussed on many forums over the years. In looking back it was almost like everything just fell into place.

I will say that there are a couple of moments that made me squirm while reading and for those that have read the book the events that happened just a couple of years ago brought a certain deja vu to myself.

We have talked about many subjects since this section came to be but one thing I have always believed in is this motto. "I pray for the best but I prepare for the worst".

Unless one has an unlimited bank account we try and do the best we can. One can glean insight and thoughts that provoke study from the fictional books that have been published.

And that is what this forum is about. I will never condone the "hunker down" mentality. To do so means that one has given up on the world and life.

We share, we inform, we support, but never will we just give in that it is "my way or the highway". And I have 9 grandchildren.

    Just some thoughts
