    http://www.9news.com/news/article.as...5465&catid=339

Dozens of law enforcement officers are on scene after a Weld County deputy and a suspect were shot on Tuesday following a police chase.

Fort Morgan Police say it all began at 9:40 a.m. when a woman reported her black 2006 Nissan Altima stolen. Police put out a "be on the lookout" alert on the vehicle, which was believed to be headed west out of Fort Morgan.
A short time later, Wiggins Police spotted the vehicle at Interstate 76 and Highway 34 where a chase ensued.
9NEWS has a crew at the scene where the chase came to an end, at Coyote and Cedar Lanes in Evans.
Witnesses in Evans say they heard gunfire in their neighborhood and saw a sheet covering what appeared to be the suspect. They say they also saw officers performing CPR on a deputy who was then taken away in an ambulance.
The Colorado State Patrol, Greeley Police Department, Weld County Sheriff's Office and Evan Police Department are on scene.
Authorities are investigating a vehicle in a driveway, but do not have their weapons drawn.
Officials did not release names or conditions.
9NEWS will update this story as more information becomes available.

Officers in Evans today cordoned off the scene of a shootout in which a Weld County Sheriff's deputy and a suspect were both shot following a high-speed chase.

A Weld County Sheriff's deputy was killed and a suspect was wounded in a shootout in Evans this morning following a car chase that at times exceeded 100 miles per hour.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Margie Martinez said the officer chased the suspect on foot and was shot by the suspect. Other officers returned fire and wounded the suspect. Both the wounded deputy and the suspect were taken to North Colorado Medical Center.

The Weld County Coroner's office said the officer died.

The chase began with a report of a robbery in Morgan County, said Greeley Police spokesman Sgt. Joe Tymkowych. Officers from several agencies pursued the suspect as the four-door black Nissan sped through Weld County, at times driving on the wrong side of the road to elude officers in Greeley and Evans. Officers at one point put stop sticks in the road to try to stop the vehicle, which crossed the county line at 10:35 a.m.

With smoke rising from the car, the suspect eventually stopped at 11:02 a.m. in a housing subdivision in the area of Coyote Lane and Cedar Lane, south of 37th Street and 35th Avenue. Tymkowych said it wasn't immediately known whether the suspect had any connection to the subdivision.

At least 25 police cars were on the scene after the shooting, along with an ambulance and a fire truck. Officers had the entire area cordoned off, and neighbors stood on their porches watching.

One woman who saw the chase said she heard about six shots.

Christina Goss, who lives about two houses away from the shooting scene, said she heard sirens and looked outside as the chase ended. She saw a man in a white shirt run from the car and then she heard a shot, with an officer falling to the ground. She said other officers who surrounded the car returned fire, and she heard five or six shots. The suspect then fell.

Goss said another officer covered his fallen comrade with his own body during the shootout until CPR could be started.

A spokesman for the Morgan County Sheriff's department declined to provide any details on how the incident began and referred all questions to Weld County authorities.

Fort Morgan Police Chief Keith Kuretich and Fort Morgan County Undersheriff Dave Martin would not release any information about the events that unfolded in their jurisdictions.
