Default Tijuana top cop who fought cartels is out of a job

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101127/...police_cleanup

Mexican Army Retiree: Lt. Col. Julian Leyzaola has earned respect from many many folks here in US including myself. He has been fighting the cartel with moderate success by our standard. Now he's getting canned. Shame!

By ELLIOT SPAGAT, Associated Press – 2 hrs 25 mins ago

TIJUANA, Mexico – Julian Leyzaola tried with unprecedented zeal to end the grip of drug cartels on one of Mexico's most notoriously corrupt police forces: In two years as top cop, he blanketed key parts of Tijuana with vetted officers, new patrol cars and military commanders, while purging hundreds of allegedly corrupt cops.

The retired army officer survived a drug-gang assassination campaign that killed dozens of his officers. He says he rejected an $80,000-a-week offer from an emissary of Mexico's most-wanted drug lord, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.
Now he's out of a job.

Just remember, it's all of those American guns crossing the border that is to blame, not the drug lords

A family member was watching Border Wars, and he was telling me how they get all their guns from the USA. He said they show all these trucks packed full of brand new AK-47's crossing into the border. That may be true, but I can't imagine that they can't get full auto AK-47's from the Chinese for cheaper than they can get semi-auto ones from us.

The AK's the Mexican gangs get DO cross the border.....

The problem is it is not OUR southern border... it's the mexican southern border they are coming across.. As in they come from Guatemala.

That's what I told him, but he was saying that they were showing the trucks caught crossing from the US to Mexico. I guess the point I was trying to make was, "Thanks a lot, stupid media."

I watched that episode, and they were bringing AK's from the US to Mexico. They were driving a large black SUV, Escalade or something, had all the firearms hidden behind the interior panels.

I don't doubt the Cartels also have their American "brethren" (i.e. MS13 and other gangs working for them) bringing US purchased firearms across the border, but the bulk of their arsenals are NOT coming from the US. Grenades, RPG's, fully Automatic Rifles, those are not coming from the US.
