uneasy w/ XD.....

Does anyone carry an XD?
I'm new to the safety locking systems and it makes me uneasy to carry it loaded. I don't like not having at least a decocking lever. I'm a firm believer that all mechanical things fail sooner or later.

Am I just being paranoid?

I use a fanny pack when I don't have a coat, it has a strap that covers the trigger, so nothing could touch it. I'm not as worried when it's in an IWB kydex.

As long as you dont pull the trigger and have the grip safety depressed at the same time it wont shoot.

Carry on with one in the pipe.

If it makes you feel better make sure the gun is unloaded and try to make it fire in all the situations that you are worried about. Bet it wont....


Once again make sure it is unloaded I dont want no "I followed KC's advice and now I cant count above 8 using my fingers" type posts.

BTW I am not real familiar with the XD safeties but I am sure there are enough redundant safties on it to make it perfectly safe.

From what I could tell with my wife's XD9, it has all the safeties a glock has plus the grip safety.

I.e. darn near impossible to fire without holding it and pulling the trigger.

A glock can handle all this and not go off, I imagine the XD could handle that. No clue if the finish on the XD is as good, though, so I don't think I'd shoot it with a .22 or drag it behind a vehicle.

I took it down enought to see just how the safety mechanisms work. It's pretty re-assuring.
Springfield has a test on their web kind of like the guy on AR-15, 20k rounds in 6 months I think.... Same Glock style test.

Being heavily mechanically orientated, I have always had issues with "failure" points of things.

No worries, I'll get use to it.

I carry my XDs loaded, cocked and one in the tube, without a worry. I think they have a pretty good safety system. I switch off on my carry between a XD9, XD45 ACP and my Kahr PM9. The Kahr doesn't have a trigger safety or and grip safety, but it does have a rather long pull. A good holster will cover the trigger.
