Until now, I've been a fan of Green Mountain Family Shooting Center. I shoot there often, and have brought them a significant amount of business by training students there (they get to charge two admissions for a single lane - not bad). Today, however, I had an unsatisfactory experience.
Their website clearly states "When we don't have people waiting at the door for a lane, you are more than welcome to stay as long as you want." Today, a buddy and I were the only shooters on the rifle range. After shooting for a while, an employee came in and told us we had 10 minutes to wrap it up and leave (no offense against the employee - he's a good guy, and was only following his manager's direction). There were 3 open lanes, and there was nobody waiting.
It's their range, so we didn't argue. We finished, packed up, and left. On the way out, I told the manager that it didn't feel right to be thrown off the range, and referred to the policy posted on their website. He made a half-hearted excuse that he needed to let the range "get some rest". Granted, their equipment wasn't working very well, and actually impeded our shooting, but we could have simply moved to another lane if that was his concern.
We are responsible, respectful shooters - always clean up after ourselves (and others), and are quite safe. Maybe he just wanted to close up early, but he sure treated us like crap today. I've never had any problem with any other staff there, so maybe it was a fluke. I wouldn't mind hearing from the owner, but I'm not sure I'll go back.
