Jer- when you called and told them about the transfers did they say they would be free? Where you aware before you went that they were under new ownership? I don't see how you could expect the transfers to be free with a new owner but the rest of the experience is definitely not right.

No, they didn't tell me when I called they would be free. They also didn't tell me they would now be $25 per transfer either. If this is some major change for the store they need to make it apparent to customers whenever the topic comes up. It seems that when a long-time customer calls and tells you that he needs a FFL transfer that would be an opportune time to notify him of policy change that will affect how he is or isn't charged.

Exactly. That's the least you can do to help smooth the transition for current customers. If you choose not to and a customer has a problem with your new or enforced charges that were never levied before then you should just waive them, apologize for the confusion and consider them informed moving forward. Charging them anyway and then being rude about it isn't how you do business. That's how you lose customers.

To them it might not be a policy change. The few times I"d asked long in the past I was told they either don't or it's like $50 for a transfer. Your free xfer was really likely based only on your huge patronage. How often did you do these transfers because while the employee's know you they may have not had that in mind. Being snappy though is never good.

Over the years I have had some pretty mixed experiences at Jensen's, starting around 2001.

I would like to contribute that with all the retailers who are jacking up prices and backing down from the weapons they sell, Jensen's has not budged an inch. I went in to "buy" (read: submit my background check) my new pistol on Saturday. I had read about the new owner, and heard second hand about some encouragement he had given the sales staff to emphasize customer service.

I can say that I worked Toys R Us for a whole Christmas month once, and it was nothing compared to Jensen's on Saturday. Customers were shoulder to shoulder between all four walls. Every sales person was exceptionally nice and polite. John (the employee, not the owner) sold me a new pistol and even took the time to make sure I got the LE pricing and help a newer employee while he was at it. The people doing background checks looked like the living dead, but they were cheerful and friendly, even when I checked my race but forgot my ethnicity

Their prices were the same as always - low. My Kimber was much cheaper than any other dealer I had found for miles, by almost $150 (before the LE price).

Don't get me wrong - I am not a shill for them. In the past, I have steered people away from Jensen's because the customer experience simply wasn't what you would expect from any store, let alone one where you are spending thousands of dollars. I am writing this post because I had heard they were quite different, and in my two visits (picked it up on Monday) I had a stellar experience, absolutely worthy of your patronage, especially in these times.

so.... Let me see if I follow this... You wanted them to bring in 3 lower receivers... which are a stocking item for them. You wanted them to let you bring in your own receivers, which, I am assuming were cheaper than the ones Jensen's had and you wanted them to do it for free. What a great deal. Screw them on a sale AND get them to work for you for free. Now, Bob may have done these for you in the past, but the new owner doesn't know you or your buying pattern. I know, for a fact, that Jensen's has ALWAYS had a $25 fee per gun and that is pretty standard around these parts. Bison Arms in Longmont charges the same fee as well as others.

Perhaps if you had gone up to the counter and said.. "The name is Muldoon" they may have done a wink wink nudge nudge and given you the transfers for free. But, perhaps... just perhaps, the new owner doesn't know that you are privileged and should be treated any different than anyone else.

I have transferred several guns through Jensen's, have also bought thousands of dollars worth of stuff, and I always got charged the $25. I guess I am not feeling very sorry for you.

If anyone gets "The name is Muldoon" bit, I will be surprised. It has to do with a bar... a new bartender and the Korean war...

$75 to transfer three lowers is common? Bullshit.

If you're paying per gun, you're getting screwed.

Exactly! Then try to tell me to my face that their $75 fee to transfer three lowers on the same paperwork is a good deal if I shop around is adding insult to injury and assumes I'm a single cell organism w/o the common sense that god gave a door knob. And your thing with people not knowing me doesn't hold water because EVERYONE there knows me. It's a money grab and I'm alright with that. Business are there to make money. I get that. But there are right and wrong ways to go about things and the situation was just handled poorly, beginning to end.
