Specialty Sports is my store of last resort.

I have personally had, and been privy to MANY stories of, down-right hostile attitudes from many of the employees - as well as Jeff (one of the owners). The only person who has been consistently decent is Matt (who came over from Sportsmans).

It's hit or miss. 2/3 of the time I go in and get great service - whether I buy something or not - and walk out feeling like it was a worthwhile visit. The other 1/3 of the time I feel lucky to walk out with my skin intact.

Yes, they have the best selection in Colorado Springs. But, as many others have said, their prices are way too high in comparison to other stores and especially online sources.

What really irks me is crap like my last visit to the store. I was looking for an RCBS #10 or comparable shell holder. They had a Lee #4 (comparable). I paid about $3 more than I would have @ Sportsmans Warehouse - and more than a $3 difference if I had purchased it online, but it was only $3 and I wanted one NOW. Once I got home and got it out of the bag (I was never allowed to see/hold the pkg until it was put in a bag and I had paid for it), I found that it was USED - VERY used. This is just bad business!

    I give them a C-

I go to SS once in a while just to look around, see what's new.

IMO their prices can easliy be beat just about anywhere.

Last year when Weatherby was selling Vanguard's for $399, SS was $429. When I asked about the price, "$399 is MSRP, only a suggestion".

I have purchased a few small items and some powder there, only becasue I could not find it anywhere else at the time.

The 1lb can of powder was nearly twice the cost that Bass Pro sells for. But I needed it and BP was out.

Great selection, mostly friendly folks, very knowledgeable, but too expensive for my wallet.

Default Gun stores in the Springs

A client of mine last week told me about a gun shop down in Colorado Springs made out of an old Walgreens store. I'll be working in the Springs tomorrow and Friday, thought I would drop in.

Anybody know which shop she was talking about?

    That looks like the place.

Reviews on it seem all over the place? Any personal experiences from members here?

Mixed reviews about Specialty Sports, it really depends on who you talk to and how much of an idiot they think you are or aren't.

Some friends of mine have had horrible experiences in there, I haven't had bad experience, however I wont say every time is a good experience either.

Jon, the older guy with glasses, kinda short, very nice guy! nice and informative.

Some of the others....not so much...

I've been there numerous times and never had a good experience. The employees were all a bunch of dicks and treated me like a child. Also, their great selection is muddled by an over-the-top markup.

They usually have pretty good prices on used items though. As in $1200 for a socom16 or $250 for a Remington 1100.

Most are dicks, but as stated before the older guy that is short or the taller hippy-ish looking dude named Bud Light is okay.

New stuff is a bit to a lot overpriced.
