I will agree though and my 19 yo is a prime example. He can't compose a paper to save his keester. Spelling, composition, punctuation and grammer are a foreign concept unless he is composing it on the computer and can hit "spellcheck".
We shant discuss his handwriting skills but man can he text
I'm not sure if you wrote this intentionally, or if you really do not understand what's wrong with your spelling; therefore, I refuse to comment about it.

My wife teaches 7th grade history but had to teach an english class this year due to being dual qualified (really the only thing that saved her job). She finally had to buckle down and tell the kids if they write papers like they text she will just toss them in the trash and give them a 0. She brought some of the papers how to show me and I was amazed.

I guess I had it a little tough growing up with both parents being teachers. Now I appreciate it.

Reading facebook and threads on the internet really make you realize that the written word is going to hell, and is pretty sad. I'm an instructional/graphic designer, so that stuff is pretty important to me...

Chatting on a forum versus a formal document are not the same. I can guarantee if I am composing a report for work or any other purpose:
Ie kan spel vary goodly and muh gramer is impeckable.

It's pretty bad when you ask a question, or have something for sale, on a forum and then need to ask the closest teenager to translate a response you got.

I'm always having to look up the meaning of different acronyms I see on this site. IMHO, and FWIW, I LMAO when I see how often some folks use these acronyms. At least, IIRC.

When people spell out or pronounce things like that, it makes me want to punch them in the face. I hear people try to say "LOL" all the time, and it makes me cringe...

    Wouldn't the OP's statement need a comma?

Help your uncle Jack, off a horse.

Help your uncle Jack off a horse.

In the second statement, Jack could be a proper noun for a sick god-damn sex act*, and not necessarily a name of a person.

    It's like the following

    Let's go eat Grandma.
    or
    Let's go eat, Grandma.

That picture inspired me to steal a bit from Jack Nicholson...(it's from another board, so the names don't mean anything)

Son, we live in a world that has rules, and those rules have to be enforced by men with grammar guides. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Thrax? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Easymo, and you curse the grammar "nazis". You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That quoting and correcting grammatical deficiencies, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that BBS, you need me on that BBS. We use words like misspelling, apostrotastrophe, ellipsabuser. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very grammatical correctness that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a dictionary, and correct some posts. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.
