    I heard about this on the radio while they were still looking for the guy.

    So, he wanted to play "cop" so badly that he acted as an unwanted and unpaid security guard, even being told by the business owners several times to STOP, but continued on. Now, HE's the bad guy that he felt he was protecting society from.
