Stuart, you and I are a lot moe alike than you'd probably care to realize. I do this exact thing daily. In fact, I feel lost when I don't have a book to read (or at least when I don't have a book that I would enjoy reading - got lots of books that I've never read but really have no interest in). Some nights I'll only make it a few pages, other nights I have to force myself to put a book down when I realize that it's 0100 and I have to get up at 0445.

As far as the OP question, I find that I havfe a LOT of gun related things I can be doing - whether it's cleaning/oiling the guns or working around the reloading bench. My little firearms/tactical corner of the basement has gotten to be a real mess and I need to clean and organize it. If this snow keeps up, that's probably what I'll be doing this weekend.

I'm getting ready to go now to Ft. Carson. They just opened up their new gun store, and while I can't buy a new gun, I do need to get a thigh rig & belt for a 1911 for my son for Christmas. (It brought a tear to my eye when I read his Christmas wish list and found that on there instead of all of the typical kid stuff he always used to ask for.)

When I'm feeling down one or two of my guns will always talk me through it. They always know what to say. Really cheers me up.

Yeah...prolly stay away from the whiskey.

    Here's something to think about:

I've been thinking about going back to work but I can't get hired anywhere. I've put in applications all over town and online with many, many companies. Mostly for just entry-level type jobs...just something for a paycheck. This has been going on for about 3 months now. Nothing.

I decided to go to school to get my CDL-A. Trucking companies will hire you right out of school. School is only 3 weeks and when you graduate you can easily go to work immediately. Of course, you have to drive over the road so, if that's not something that will work for you, it may not be the thing to do. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to try it for a few months or not.

But, seriously, after 3 weeks you have a job waiting. Most classes graduate on Fri and the students have a job with any of several of the big trucking companies on Monday.

You can anticipate a 42 day paid on-the-job-training program driving OTR with a trainer. Typical pay is $450 per week for the first 4 weeks and $500 per week for the remaining 2 weeks while you're in training. Everything is paid for by the company except your meals. Most of them even offer a reimbursement program for your school tuition (to the tune of $100 - $150 per month beginning after you finish your company driver training). Good benefits, too.

You can go to school locally here in Denver and the tuition includes everything but your DMV license fees (less than $50). The schools range in price from $2650 to $4000. Lots of assistance is available for this.

When you finish the driver training program you get the keys to your own late-model truck (sometimes a brand new one) and start driving at somewhere between .26 and .30 cents per mile. Most new drivers will earn about $38,000 - $40,000 the first year.

After a year you'll have experience to get hired by other companies that offer more local driving opportunities.

I just finished the first week and I don't have a clue what I'm gonna do yet because I really don't want to drive over the road. Actually, I just don't want to be away from home that much. But I may go ahead and do it for a year and then look for a local job or a dedicated run so I can have more home time.

Or I'll just have a really expensive driver's license.

I hope things work out for you, DOC. Feel free to contact me if you think you might want more info.

10-25 hours of wtf distraction for you there, if your into "wtf" type of stories (weird hospital stories from mostly staffers)

You may think you're having a bad day, then you read about something like the the visiting sister that tries to give her unconscious brother some handiwork while demanding that he wake up because they still have to have kids together, then points to the beep on the monitor as proof its working. You can't make that $hit up! After reading it, you'll still be having a bad day, but you'll be really wierded out and glad you don't work in a hospital.

    1) I haven't laughed that much in a long time..

    2) Definatly glad I got out of the medical field, I would have slit my wrists a long time ago...

Bailey, once you get that really expensive driver's license, I'm sure you can work for CDOT. Both my uncle's work for CDOT and I know one of them used to be a trucker. RTD is hiring as well. They pay around 30 something thousand a year I think.

I've been applying for jobs for around 9 months with no luck. The great part about going through a temp agency, is that you can get hired on as a temp in a position where they might usually not take you, then show that you can do the job and be hired on permanent.

Whenever I feel down, I kick the shit of of my neighbor's cat. Ok, J/K... That cat doesn't come close to my house any more, thanks to airsoft. Was tormenting my chickens.

The voices in my head cheer me up. That and a good run. I am up to 4 miles for a long run and about 2-3 miles the other 2-3 days a week.
