    Default Magpul AFG question

I have looked at these in the past but never bought one. Well after a trade deal with BPTactical I now have one. Of course I turn it backwards and mount it on the side for increased stability when performing hard cornering

But my question is their is 2 screws on the side to take the halves apart and their is a square that is removable, is their optional equipment made for this or is it just because?

There's a flat and notched piece that can be put in place there.

Thanks, I figured their had to be a reason but it didnt mention it on the Magpul web site.

I am not sure I like it? I took it out for a test drive today on the new Colt. I sighted in the rifle then had some high speed fun. It worked good but is almost in the way when shooting prone. Will have to see after I get longer handguards and can move it out a ways. I see no use for it when used as designed for me at least.

It feels a better a little further out like on a middy or rifle...to me anyways.
