    Default Seatbelts.....again

Yesterday, a car with a man, woman, and their daughter rolled over on the highway. The man was not wearing his seatbelt, and was partially ejected, then dragged under the car until it stopped. His wife and daughter, who were buckled-up, were ok.

My wife was one of the paramedics who responded. She got to explain to the wife and daughter that their husband/daddy was dead, and then help them though the viewing of their mangled love one on the highway.

That family will never be the same. Christmas will forever have a new meaning to them. They'll never forget that gruesome scene (I'm omitting details out of respect). I maintain that it is not the government's place to be our nanny. Don't wear your seatbelt just because the government says so. Wear it for your wives and daughters.

Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to Fight, he'll just kill you.

ALWAYS wear your seatbelt when driving at highway speeds.

I rolled a truck down I-80 at rush hour in Omaha, and was pitched out about 1 1/2 rolls into the 3 1/2 that the truck completed. I was incredibly lucky not to have been seriously injured or killed.

Kati Coric on CBS News, said that millions of Ford seatbelts are defective. The SHA blamed a guy for not wearing a seat belt, when his Ford Bronco rolled over and he was ejected and killed. The morgue photo's show a slash cut along his collarbone which proved he was faithfully wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Turns out, if you have a rollover and the seatbelt goes forward, it does not retract, therefore you just get forced out of restraint and go right out the door or thru the roof during rollover.
I forget the name of the seatbelt company. The newscast was a couple of months ago.

I happen to be a victim of a faulty Ford Bronco seat belt. Fortunately we were only going 55 when the head on occured, so my head only went partially through the windshield.

I don't know why they are bothering with seatbelts in Ford Broncos when those vehicles haven't been built since I believe 1996 or 1997. I had a Mustang with the same problem. Go to the dealer or find new ones online. A vehicle that old will develop problems. It is the consumers responsibility to make sure the safety features in any vehicle are working properly. I did notice that GM has ANOTHER seatbelt recall. Seems they still can't get it right. Here's an idea, take the seatbelts out of the seats! Bolt them to the floor like everyone else.

Wife and I have been using our seat belts for every time we venture out in the vehicle regardless of destination. Way back in 1961 we used to attend a lot of stock car races in Soldier Field, Chicago and after seeing so many of the stock cars having some serious pile ups and the drivers walking away, we got a set of belts from the old Warshawski store in Chicago and I installed them in our new 1961 Chevy Impalla. Drilled and bolted them right into the floor. Have used seat belts ever since (right at 50 years). Almost makes us some of the earlier pioneers using seat belts long before they were required by law. I do carry a sharp knife to cut our way out just in the unlikely event we ever get trapped in the vehicle by our belts. There are a huge number of serious accidents on I-25 between Pueblo and Trinidad and so damn many of them are from over correcting when the vehicle runs off the shoulder. "Click it or ticket"!
