    oh
    wait

    never mind.
I Agree that if you decide you are stupid enough to operate a motor vehicle without provided safety devices, that should be your choice.

    UNFORTUNATELY

When your Dumb-ass turns into a projectile killing all of the other occupants of the vehicle you are traveling in, it affects others. When your dumb-ass is ejected, you head-butt a solid object at 40mph and you become a vegetable sucking hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical expenses a year, we have to pay for it.
And then your widow and Orphans will want Welfare and Medicare because daddy is dead.

So yea, I kinda have a problem when other people impose their rights ahead of the well-being of others.

When they come up with a waiver for the stupid people not costing the smart ones more money. I am so down with the natural selection shit.

As I said last time this subject came up.

The only person dumber than one that doesn't wear his seatbelt is one that wants his government to FORCE him to.
Modern liberalism is based on the idea that reality is obligated to conform to one's beliefs because; "I have the right to believe whatever I want".

I agree with Byte and Zundfolge, but my intent was not to re-open the debate about governmental involvement in the seatbelt arena. Those who thought it was, missed my point.

I believe it is a man's job to protect his family. There are those who will reject common sense and good judgment and continue to refuse to wear a seatbelt, only because they are ass-hurt about being told to do so. When your choices result in your wife and daughter crying while kneeling in your innards, you have failed as a husband and father.

If the Government and Civil courts would add an idiot clause. I would say the government has no business telling people they have to wear seat-belts or helmets.

    Ideally something like the following.

    Mr Smith,
We have determined that you and your wife were not wearing your seat-belts at the time of your recent accident. Your life insurance is hereby revoked to avoid unnecessary costs to other customers and the stockholders. Your medical insurance is also void for the same reasons. You are not eligible for medicare, medicaid, Social security, Workman's Compensation, Or even a fucking church food drive for Christmas for similar reasons. All costs associated with this incident will be your sole responsibility
All of your property is being seized and auctioned to pay for all of the emergency responders, They should not pay for your ignorance.
We aren't burying your wife and if you can't pay for it we will sell her body to a university for dissection and study to cover the costs. Your kid(s) will not be eligible for any therapy or any form of social services as there is no allocation for other peoples stupidity in this fiscal years tax budget. Get used to them coming in VERY Late at night or early in the morning smelling of cheap perfume and vomit.
You have forfeited any and all claims of civil or criminal liability for any and all parties involved in, responding to or even remotely near the incident.
We thank you for eliminating yet another sample from the shallow end of the Gene-Pool

And I was PISSED that I got a ticket this week from COSP for my employee sitting next to me NOT wearing his seatbelt. $75 fine. After reading the OP, I'm not upset anymore. The idiot employee will be paying my fine and my thoughts and comments (cursing) on the COSP have been retracted ( Please forgive me). Thanks for the read, changed my attitude a bit. I always wear a belt, but didnt like the government making me do it.

well it didn't quote your rant, but pretend it did.
    but
let's see, you (he, the person in the accident) paid for their life insurance, the insurance company knew the risks.
paid for their health insurance too, they knew the risk.
paid for their car/property insurance too, they also knew that risk.

emergency responders are paid for by everyone's taxes. So, if you want to go your way (pay per use), that's fine, but I'm not paying taxes for it AND paying per use. So, if we do it your way, I want a refund for the last 20 years or so of a couple hundred dollars a year that I haven't used.

the rest of the rant shouldn't be covered for anybody, ever, no matter what, just liberalism run away with itself.

these people knew the risks, life isn't risk free. Either we ban everything and only allow government approved activities or you know, we could allow people to make their own decisions and live (or not) with the consequences. The 2nd choice seemed to work fine for the first 175 years or so in this country.

BTW, I wear my seat belt in my car/truck, nothing else. I'll still die someday, from something, just like everyone else. Nobody gets out alive.

Always have a seat belt cutter and a window smasher handy at all times while operating your vechicle.

Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to Fight, he'll just kill you.
