Sounds like a perfect drop gun, keep it.

I'd rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it.
is it chrome plated? raven, jennings, bryco, davis? toss it in the lake.
This! They do lie, and they cant tell their ass from a hole in the ground so I have doubts local pd could tell you anything. But it would be nice to get it back to the original owner if it is. Also by now some dumb ass at the atf has probably gotten lucky on a google search and is following this thread looking for some one abusing potatoe chips, if it was the DEA he would have shot him self in the foot. Heres a thread from a couple years ago with a quick search.

I guess the officer running the check could face consequences if it is stolen and not recovered, so expect some pressure if it is stolen.

huh...guess I never thought of that. I'm having someone run it right now, so we'll see how it turns out *fingers crossed*

had a similar situation, just told the cop that I had come in to possession of one that I had doubts about and wanted to check it out, if it came back stolen it was his to take and do what ever with, but just wanted to easy my suspicions. He ran it and thanked me for checking. I know this is not always going to be the reaction, but I told him that I received it in a trade and now suspected it because the guy just didn't seem right after I had been thinking about it. That ended all the questions about where I had gotten it. Hope it turns out just as well for you.
My dad had a Colt 1991 stolen from him about 10+ years ago. After he died I called the Albuquerque PD to see if they had any info on it's dispostion. They wouldn't tell me anything over the phone, they want me to go there and they will send out an officer to run the SN.
I just wanted to see which one of my shit head friends stole it.
Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Haw haw haw?..
