I used to enjoy replying to them & taking up as much of their time as possible, thus reducing the possibility that they could find a real victim.

Someone in my family was in danger of a slightly more elaborate scam earlier this year. I hope he didn't fall for it. They basically called him and said that his recently passed on wife was owed money still by someone, and if he paid them XX amount of dollars, they'd give him the information to collect on the debt. Very shady.

I think that things are so financially tight for the elderly that they tend to foget all of the lessons theyd learned through their lives about how deceitful people can be and throw caution to the wind to reap a windfall. It's especially sad because they can least afford the financial setbacks - which are often permanent. Those who prey on the elderly and on children are the lowest form of scum on the planet.

Now, those of us who are a bit of a less "seasoned" age have absolutely no excuse for falling for these schemes - but folks still due. I don't know why it's so hard for people to understand that you just don't get something for nothing, ever. And, anyone wanting to charge you anything to get a load of cash is just a con artist looking to strip you bare financially.

The government endorse/regulated lotteries are bad enough, but at least you know that if you buy a ticket it's a small and controlled investment and that somebody is going to win and it could be (ridiculously slim chance, but it's possible) you.

I was so excited for you! Then was excited for the rest of us with all of the pass it on free stuff. My pastor once sent one of these idgets a full sermon and reaction to his email. He actually received an apology letter.
