    Default Polypro thermals...

So I went to the big surplus store in Englewood today to look for some thermal tops to replace the ones I turned in many moons ago.

All I found was Made In China crap that is barely long enough to drop to my belt, so obviously no tucking in for heat retention while moving around. I seem to remember the ECWCS issue ones having excess length to tuck in.

I've done a fair bit of online searching and haven't found anything but new production that looks like commercial stuff. Does anyone know of a source, either a store or online, that actually sells the real deal, gov't contract, ECWCS tops and bottoms; you know, the ones with the large square tag that reads "Shirt, Cold Weather, ECWCS, etc, etc."

Or if anyone has some zip-neck tops and bottoms in Med-Reg and doesn't want them anymore

May want to try Jax Outdoor Gear in Fort Collins or Loveland. They carry mil-surp stuff.

I don't know if this is a good price or not but I believe they have what you're looking for. I've been wanting some good long johns too. Are these PolyPro Thermals good stuff or what?

Not mil-surp but Patagonia expedition weight poly pro is warm and lasts forever.

Yeah that's the stuff I found at many different websites (same pics and models and so forth), and I want to be sure they are what I remember before I use the much abused credit card to get some. And yes, they are the shiznit...wear them as the first layer and you will be toasty and dry.

I stopped wearing military surplus crap after I got out of the Army. I found lighter weight stuff that packed easier and kept me warmer. I go to the same surplus store all the time for thermals, but I don't specifically look for military style thermals. In fact I don't think the Army is even issuing the brown ones anymore (which my favorite was the wooly pully). They went to civilian style long underwear.
