    Default Scamming a scammer

Any of you tried to sell something on Craigslist of any value? We listed our Explorer and at least 4 people a day would try to scam us. Anyway, my wife got this idea in her head that she thought would be funny. She went along with one of the deals and made it sound like we were really short on cash, needed money fast and so on. The guy overnighted the fake check through FedEx to our friends P.O. Box. Now this is how they scam you. They make up some kind of story about how they accidently sent you too much money and ask for it back, or say the money is for their shipper, or some other kind of BS. Anyway, it was for $500 over what our price was. She continues to tell the guy that when she took it to our credit union, they wanted to charge a $20 up front fee for an out of state check. She told the scammer that we were really tight on money and literally didn't have the $20. He again, overnighted us the money, this time a nice crisp $20 bill. She emailed him once more and told him thank you for the "real" money this time, must suck getting beaten at your own game. Then we bought pizza.

Also, before any of you ask me if I went to the police or anything, we did. This shit happens way too much for them to keep track of it and do anything about it right now. That was what they said at the police station, our local FBI building, and the CBI building. Guess this kind of shit just isn't important to them.

Thats good stuff! If you find that kind of stuff funny, Google "scam baiting" and there are tons of hillarious stories of scammers getting screwed over. One of the best ones I have read was about a laptop and a guy scamming the scammer with a company called "Anus Laptops" The story is here: http://www.thescambaiter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=109 Long but very funny read.

Of course now you've just admitted in public that you committed mail fraud for $20. Oops.

(gotta admit its kinda ironic that this was my 666th post here)

that is awesome that you actually got money from them!

My dad did damn near the same thing. the guy was also using a legit business name that he was stealing/printing checks from and sending them for far more than the actual amount.

my dad mailed the check to the business to alert them.

I have done a lot of CL stuff as well but just blow the spammers off. usually the only issue I run into is when I want to buy something and then they tell me they are heading to iraq or a-stan or it was their husbands and they were killed overseas (really pisses me off).
they always tell me it is in another state and they are near the .mil base...so since I have free flight benefits on any airline, I explain I can come up and pick it up with cash and I also add in that I have a home right near them so it won't be an issue. I never get a response back for some reason.
All I have in this world is my balls and my word and I don't break em for no one.
