    Default Local stock checkering?

I was wondering if there's anyone on the front range that does wood checkering on gun stocks?

I've got a real nice black cherry wood grip on my Dan Wesson 14-2 that I'd like to get checkered.

Larry at LB Custom Grips gave me the prototype for his Speed Grip (based on a design we'd talked about on the Dan Wesson forum) and I really like the grip but it needs some more "grippiness" to it for daily carry (its fine at the range but I wouldn't want to rely on them when the excrement hits the rotating air mover).

Anyway, I want to make sure that whoever does them does top notch work (that and doesn't cost an arm and a leg ... I understand its time consuming and exacting work, but I don't have limitless funds).

Ideally it would be someone close to The Springs so I could just drop the grip off in person.

    Anyone out there?

I don't think you're going to have much luck zund.

A few years back my Dad went looking for the exact same thing for the stock of his .30-06 and couldn't find anyone.

Ended up sending the stock to someone to get checkered. I can't remember who but I think it was out of state. It took a really long time, he finally got it back after sending a "where praytell is my stock!?!?" message. It looked great though, a fine job.

I'll try and get the info from him for ya. Like I said, it's been a while ago so maybe things have changed.

Shoot BPTactical an PM. I don't know if he does checkering or not quite honestly. I'm sure he'll chime in here soon enough.

If not, check with CST (Colorado School of Trades). They do all sorts of work for people. Might be worth a call . . . . Just make sure they guarantee their work.

Check this guy out. Not local but I have personally seen his work(a buddy had grip panels for 1911 done) and I will be sending him a set of mine to be done.

Edit - buddy said price was reasonable and I think it only took a couple weeks w/ shipping
