I think the key here is "Existing Laws."

So probably no new efforts just tightening the one we already have.

How about enforcing the ones we already have and quit the BS.

    +1

And they know it's death sentence for them if they play that game again.

The laws we have work, as mentioned in another thread here.

What didn't work is the mental health system and reporting it back to where the guy couldn't buy a gun. How about we work on that?

Oh, and the Obama administration and Democrats playing the gun control game with less than 2 years until re-election would be political suicide.

I keep hearing about how Obambi is gonna start pushing for gun control any day now ... but with the changeover in the house its pretty much DOA.

He missed his chance to shove gun control down our throats because he was busy shoving every other liberal idea down our throats (honestly I'm surprised they didn't include some form of gun control in the health bill ... I'm sure they're kicking themselves by now for the oversight).
Modern liberalism is based on the idea that reality is obligated to conform to one's beliefs because; "I have the right to believe whatever I want".

Default Will They Pass It Before We Find Out What Is In It?

A quote from Adolf Hitler, 1935

"This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future."

That says it all. Doesn't it!

Except that Hitler never actually said that (not that he didn't support gun control).

It is true that most of what is contained in this is alreay law in some form, but every inch we give them will result in a mile lost in the long run. The Obama administration will not try to push gun control now, but they will no doubt point as many fingers as they can and make every shooting a national head line. The liberal adgenda will be set on making our crap economy look as good as possible and the conservative ideal as bad as they can in hopes getting him re-elected. If that happens you better believe that they will stop at nothing to get everything they want as there will be nothing to lose. That is the sole reason for rasing the debt limit, to buy democratic votes through artificial recovery numbers.

While that is true he did not say exactly that at that time, he did however make Socialized medicine one of his top priorities. He enacted it shortly after taking power and then used it as the vehicle for social cleansing where the sterilized and killed "genetically inferior" which eventually lead to genocide.

Back to gun control I found this additional bit of information about the Nazi gun registration:

"The laws adopted by the Weimar Republic [pre Hitler] intended to disarm Nazis and Communists were sufficiently discretionary that the Nazis managed to use them against their enemies once they were in power." In other words, they didn't need to pass additional laws. The Nazis did pass a weapons law in 1938, but that only added restrictions to the previous law, especially for Jews and other "non-citizens."
