Public schools=prisons?

I posted this on arfcom, but apparently this happened on Tuesday when Jared Jensen was killed, I know some of or perhaps all the schools were D11, just curious what folks think about this.

Couple days ago some dirtbag shot a police officer in my town. Police blocked off a pretty large section of town looking for the perp for a few hours. Several schools were on "lockdown". At a work meeting yesterday some folks who have kids in these schools remarked that even if a parent showed up at the door to the school the school wouldn't open the door and let the parent take their child, and apparently some parents were arrested for going to the school and making a stink about this. My coworkers remarked that this was good as the kids are safer in the school than outside of it, which made me laugh.

So I'm just curious if this is normal, schools being allowed to keep kids prisoner from their own parents because there is some nutjob on the loose (which is in fact a 24/7 reality).

Yes this is normal. Who's to say the dirtbag isn't a parent trying to get his kid. trying to look normal and blend in with everyone else.
Also if I am on a scene and tell you to stay inside your house and you choose to not listen to me I can and
will arrest you.

Happened on 9/11 in alot of school then too. And like bill said you refuse to follow a lawful order you will be arrested.

No one should be allowed to give a "lawfull" oder to bar them from taking their kids home. In all reality, schools are a target, and the dirtbag will come in and try to take kids hostage whether the guy at the door tells him to or not... remember he has a gun, the guy at the door(who would usually be a school admin) probly doesnt.

In fact the guy at the door (unless he is an LEO) is barred by law from having a gun.

So in otherwords lets let the admins lock the kids in an undefended school, and not let the parents take them to a safe home, heck just to be annoying lets arrest the parents that would do a better job protecting their kids than the school! That sounds smart to me!

I bet you thats what goes through all the policy makers heads when they make the policy.


Hell why not just ask the crook to take our kids hostages and hand them over on a silver platter.
