    Default New Power supply.

Well the one I am using is 6 years old and I smelled that familiar dieing transformer smell just before it shut down. Easy fix but it will be a couple of days. I have a spare but it is in a case already. So on to the laptop for awhile.

You did not think ya could get rid of me that easy did ya. Stupid computer.

I had a rash of 'em a couple of years ago...shoulda seen the look on the face of the clerk at Microcenter when I bought 4 of 'em at the same time.

What was weird was they were at 3 different locations in town, and 3 of the 4 were on power filtered UPS systems....

Just about everything here is on a UPS. I do like the calls I get at work. "When the power went out the computer only stayed on for 10 min" Server sized tower with a 21" crt. Duh.

That's funny! They need someone to explain what to do when the power goes out.

I've been lucky, only had a power supply die once, and it didn't take the motherboard with it.

That does not work. I had to wrap electrical tape around the power strips unused outlets that was plugged into the UPS just to get them to stop plugging the laser printer into it.

We have fun ones. The kid in the ER that unplugged the KVM switch for the monitoring system so he could plug his ipod in.

I remember a service call or two involving overload alarms on the UPS- because they plugged the laser printer into the UPS

when they complain "it only stayed on for 10 minutes", thats when you sell them a backup generator, with an auto transfer switch... 10min is plenty of time for the generator to start & stabilize

I've got and old HP Pavilion you can have to cannibalize for the power supply if you want it.

We have 3-1250K generators. Every time we have an outage lasting more than 15min they complain. Um, ya see that red outlet that you have nothing plugged into over there? Yes, that is the one on emergency power ya dipstick.... And they come online in 8 sec.

That's an impressive stack of jenny's. I've been in large datacenters with less. The craziest setup I've seen was http://www.56marietta.com/pages/buil...astructure.php

Who is running that much backup power? Govt or private?

I think somewhere between Co Springs and Pueblo would be a good spot for a datacenter, along an East/West and North/South railroad lines, between two coal fire plants, in an area with natural gas, wind, and sun power available.

without breaching any classification rules, Satellite communications facility I last worked at could run all Dishes, Step and RHN For a few days.
    200% Redundancy.
    Chillers included.
