Exclamation Senate Bill 53 "State of Emergency" dies

SB 53, which was a good piece of common sense legislation intended to allow the citizens of Colorado the right to purchase, transport and retain their firearms in the event of a "State of Emergency" was killed today in a purely partisan vote.
Senators that voted against this bill are:
    Rollie Heath (D)
    Bob Bacon (D)
    Betty Boyd (D)
    Those that voted for are:
    Bill Cadman (R)
    Kevin Grantham (R)

This legislation, introduced by state Senator Scott Renfroe (R-13), would have eliminated the authority of the governor to suspend or limit the sale, dispensing, or transportation of firearms during a state of disaster emergency. State lawmakers thought they addressed this issue years ago, but it was discovered that a drafting oversight actually left a component of the old law on the books. During session last February, this committee defeated similar legislation on a partisan 3-2 vote.

Still think our 2A rights are in good hands with this Governor?
The "D's" don't like us me thinks.............

I'm really surprised more people haven't expressed interest in this bill. In times when citizens may need their firearms the most they won't legally be able to buy/possess/transport them.

Reasonable, common sense legislation that is introduced in state senate will be killed in committee. It should be introduced in the house to have any chance.

This legislation should not be needed. Governor should not have the power to limit at any time much less during "state of emergency". Too bad it's too late already.

No- it's not too late. Contact every Rep you can and ask to have it reintroduced.

I guess they'll just have to learn the hard way.
