    Default Shpping Out of State

I have a rifle that I've been having a hard time finding a buyer for, and I recently was contacted by an FFL in Connecticut who said he'd take it if I'd ship it. I don't have any reason to doubt the legitimacy of the deal or what he's saying, but I just wanted to toss this out here to see if anything glaring stands out as an issue. Ya know, just wanna make sure my arse it covered. I basically wanted to know what I had to do on my end; he wanted the serial number (I sent him: 078xxx), and then a color copy of my license. Here's where's it's at with the last message from him:

    "Procedure:
    1. I send you 2 postal money orders (which are good as cash at any post office) along with our FFL
    2. You send me rifle along with a color copy of your state ID or Driver lic.
    3. Thats it.

I can send you a label if you give me box dimensions and weight. If not I will include 25.00 extra to cover the qoutes you provided.

Does this sound doable to you?"

Not sure what he needs my DL for, but whatever. What I wanted to be sure from the experts here is that its okay for me to just stick a rifle into a box and ship it UPS to an FFL without any paperwork, etc? Anything I should be concerned with here? Thanks.

The FFLs that will receive items from individuals require a copy of your DL and a copy of the FFL enclosed in the shipment, might be an ATF or shippers regulation. $ 25 for shipping sounds like you are gettig shorted, I think you must overnight if a non FFL is shipping a firearm to a FFL. If he is offering to send you a shipping label take advantage of that. Also you need to take the package to the shippers hub, not to the local corner UPS retail center.

Someone with more knowlege should be along right about. Now.

Including a copy of your DL is pretty standard fare for an out of state transaction. The receiving FFL has to log in the firearm as an "acquisition". If your SSN is on the DL black it out.
I would include the caveat that the rifle will be shipped upon verification and clearance of funds. Postal Money Orders are one of the most frequently forged financial documents of late.
Aside from that it sounds fairly kosher.
As far as the shipping end if he is willing to send a pre-paid label to you then that is a good deal for you. Make sure that it is insured at a fair replacement value. If you have to cover the shipping and such you are probably closer to 40.00 or so. You do not have to "overnight" a long arm.

I was looking for this- BPTactical covered it, just thought I'd mention that "overnight" is required for handguns... that's probably why Bob thought it was a requirement.

For shipping the package is 12lbs, and the UPS site quoted me $16. Why would you all think it will be $40+? Do I have to tell the UPS agent, or just hand them the box with the paperwork inside?

I've managed to stay 100% off the grid with all my arms so far; mailing this rifle to an FFL is going to change all that, isn't? Maybe its time to just throw away my tin-foil hat?

The shipping sounds awfully low- does that include insurance and priority shipping? You don't have to overnight it unless it is a HG as noted but I personally like to get firearms there as quickly as I can. The last firearm I shipped was to Pennsylvania and for 1500 in insurance and 3-5 day shipping it was 42.00 IIRC.
Tinfoil hats are useless anymore- we are all on the "Grid" in one way or another buddy.
