Her drug upped minor son was in illegal possession of a handgun while breaking into people's homes and all she can do is make excuses as to why he shouldn't have been shot? While her son's choices that night got him killed, her sad attempts at being a parent were the catalyst that began the path towards this tragedy. Had she chose to be a better parent rather than make excuses, maybe her son's life would have turned out differently. God knows what her son and his friends would have done had the home owner not been armed.

So let me get this right...

Your criminal Son/Godson/Whatever commits Multiple burglaries with a Deadly weapon, breaks into a home, threatens the homeowner deadly force and is not expected to react in kind?

If it were me I would sue the hell out of the family.
They failed to teach him the morals and ethics required to properly function in society.

“I don’t understand why he (Kutchin) couldn’t have done a warning shot or shot him in his leg. They didn’t fire shots. They were scared and running out when it happened,” said Gonzales.
If your son hadn't been there, in someone else's home, carrying a weapon, jacked up on drugs and alcohol, he wouldn't have been there to be shot. The only warning required was a locked front door. I'm sorry for your loss, but bad decisions have bad consequences. If you want to do something about this, and help prevent events like this in the future, work to convince the people in your community that burglary/robbery/theft carries an unacceptable risk of DEATH. Don't blame the shooter, he was only protecting himself from attack.

“My Godson did wrong, but he didn’t deserve to die,” said Phyllis Chavez, Duran’s godmother. “I don’t think it was fair the way he(Kutchin) shot freely. Do it in the air. Why was he aiming at them if they are running away? That’s the part I don’t understand,” said Chavez.
    Talking into the wind here...

This same old tired line? Sorry Phyllis, you'll get no sympathy from me for your loss. Terrible that others are impacted in this way due to poor decisions by their kin but...I just don't care.

Fair? Dont understand? Laughable...and your an idiot Phyllis, grieving I'm sure but your an idiot. Fuck your shit-bag relative Marcus, good shoot to the extent I read the facts as reported and I'm glad his death was the result.

    No quarter Marcus, see ya'.

I Wonder what Phyllis would do if a 3 teenage thugs broke into her house at 0-Dark:30 all liquored up, smoked out and popping on Opiates and pointed a gun at her?
    1. call the police and wait 10-30 minutes?
    2. recklessly shoot into the air and risk an innocent life? (They don't magically go away)
    3. Swallow that lump of hypocrisy and do what Kutchin did.
    My Bet is on #3

I am honestly surprised no one is screaming racism yet.

I disagree. I am betting she would call for police, cower in the corner, begging for her life and get shot in her own home.
