Halfway through OSA. Started thinking about all the things that would get knocked out in an EMP attack. The one that really gave me that "oh sh*t" feeling was the electronic lock on the gun safe! Any ideas on that one? Refit with mechanical, make friends with a locksmith?

Forstchen wrote that book with the absolute worst possible scenerio. Most of the "experts" don't think a HEMP/solar flare would do nearly that much damage.

With regards to the gun lock, I doubt it'd be affected at all. EMP effects are channeled into systems with long wiring runs (power lines, large antennas, etc). The longest run of wire in that lock is probably less than 1". You'll probably be just fine. If you're really concerned about, maybe consider a non-electric diesel conversion for it.

from my research this is my conclusion too. I would agree that better safe than sorry but for me right now, I like quicker access as I keep everything locked up tight (except one).
Also, even though everything is bolted down, I think with some time and some tools, I can get in easily enough. Time I will have if that scenario plays out, which simple smash and grab thugs don't have when everything is currently copacetic.
