Thread: Sight???

    Default Sight???

I got my new Rock Island 1911 officers model. I already got a butt load of ammo, 9 magazines, extra mag pouches and a couple of holsters. This weekend is the last day of goose season and I will have a chance to shoot it after that.

The only thing I don't like about it, is the sights. I have never changed the sights on a handgun before. I would like to put sights on it that are close to what my Sigma has. Is this something I can do myself or do I have to hire a smith? Thanks in advance!!

If the front is staked instead of channel cut, do the change right and have a gunsmith remove the original sight and have a channel cut. Have the channel cut to fit the front sight you decide to go with. There are different cuts for different companies sights. The rear may need to be recut to accommodate the new rear too. I had this done with an 80 series Colt and it's the way to go. Silver soldered front sights are just a PITA.
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.

What he said-He said well. If your front is a dovetail then a swap is easy. Staked in ones are a bit more of a pain and you do have choices. If you are looking for a "3 dot" configuration we can do that with the staked in style. If you are wanting to go with nights then cutting new dovetails is the way to go.

That's a close-in gun, get a set of 24/7 Big Dots. Just my opinion.
