Glock cleaning?

First time Glock owner and not a big fan of platstic guns. Can I use G96 to clean my 21sf or will the solvent based cleaner ruin the plastic frame? If so, what's the best stuff to use?

You are planning to clean your Glock?? Kind of defeats the purpose of getting a Glock, doesn't it?

J/K I clean mine with the same solvents I clean everything else with, never had a problem with anything. I mostly just clean them to keep them looking nice, I've shot hundreds (if not thousands) of rounds through some of my Glocks without ever cleaning them, without any kind of failures or malfunctions. Enjoy your new gun!

I have never used G96 but most gun-specific cleaner/solvents will not damage the plastic guns. From personal experience I can tell you that you may want to try a strong detergent to clean the plastic parts. My favorite one is Simple Green. It works well and it is biodegradable; oh and it is also inexpensive and readily available.

After you are done cleaning the metal parts with Simple Green, make sure that you lubricate them. This detergent penetrates the metal pores and removes all of the oil found there.

The new 21SF. I dont think they classify it as a 4th gen, but what the hell do I know. It shoots well, and I'm happy with that.

Very cool, I have a 21SF as well, fits my hands MUCH better than the standard 21. I don't think they have a 4th Gen 21 out yet. I've been told there will no longer be a 21SF, they will all come that size standard, and you can add grip inserts to make it larger like the standard 21.

I've been wanting a 21SF for a while now, I just can't decide what I would be willing to part with to get one.

I have a buddy who throws his 36 frame in the top rack of his dishwasher twice a year and pulls it out before the dry cycle. He swears by it and I have checked it out a couple of times. Personally I don't think I would do it but it seems no worse for the wear.

I tested my Glocks when I first started shooting competitions to see just how sensitive they are to cleaning. My G34 went 10k before I got a failure due to lack of cleaning. It was the chamber. I cleaned the chamber relubed the rails and it went another 10k before the it failed again. It was the chamber again. If you're cleaning it more than once a year with normal round count shooting, you are doing it for yourself and not the gun. They just run, and they like to run on the dry side. Not totally dry, but don't lube it like a high end 1911 or AR.
