I am a conservative guy who married into a liberal Jewish family. My wifes mothers side lost all of her European relatives in World War 2 (wifes mother was born in the 1930's). They have totally accepted me and are very tolerant of my views. I suspect my mother in law likes to hear my diffrent prospective on things because we can talk forever.

I remember back in 2006 I mentioned to my wife that I had found this Rune marked SS Mauser that had been made in concentration camp. Well my Birthday came around and my Mother in Law pulls me aside and hands me a check to get it. She said how it was made is an example of pure evil, however things like this (mauser) should be kept to remind people that the evil did exist. Anyways I bought that Mauser, and it sits in my collection now. Because of the words of my Mother in Law it means alot to me, and I am certain it means alot to my mother in law. To be honest when I pull out of the safe it gives me goosebumps and I feel solem when I hold it realizing how it came to be. I plan to hand this rifle to my son down the road and hopefully he will have the same feelings.

In closing I am glad we have the freedom to reenact and purchase old military gear.

There are many stories out there about how similar we were/are, soldiers spending Christmas together, or my favorite the story of the German fighter escorting the Crippled U.S. plane back to Britain.

Anybody got a link to the above??????

Just take a "history" class at Boulder or Berkeley and I'm sure you would get your wish. Personally, I'm fed up with the last 20 years of agit-prop rewriting history to say how bad America is/was.

I know a real serious re-enactor. He has German, English, several US branches and Russian. (His favorite is Russian). No French. That would be a short re-enactment. Surrender before lunch.

I used to be a part of the WWII Historical Re-Enactment Society here in Denver in the 80's when I was a teenager. We dressed up as 10th Mountain Div Soldiers and reenacted with German reenactors along the hogback next to what is now C-470 in the Morrison area. Great fun and I learned a lot about the units and their history from these guys.

Later, I was stationed in Germany in the Infantry and was able to actually see the areas where the battles occured. At the time (mid-80's), West Germany still had WWII pillboxes in areas, old wrecks of the Panzer tanks used for target practice and a lot of of history of the war was evident everywhere. Along the French/German boundary, they still had trenches and tours of the trench systems used in WWI and in WWII.

That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.

Agreed. There's nothing like a swastika to practice sight picture.

My pops was a member of the HRS back in the 80's, and is now the president of the 10th Mtn. Division Living History Display Group.
http://tenthmountain.org/ - The young guy in the middle of the pic on the main page is me about 4 or 5 years ago...

I grew up doing the whole reenacting thing. I havent been as involved lately as I would like to be... My father has done this my whole life, primarily the 10th Mtn stuff, and I have met alot of people from all walks of life into portraying all eras and nationalities. Honestly, There are some real freaking weirdos and nut jobs, racists and bigots out there. But I believe that applies to EVERY group of people, not just the guy in the German uniform! There are also some really good people that just want to keep the history alive from an educational standpoint. I've found that group to make up the majority of that community.

Photos of a few of the horrible Nazi artifacts I've collected:

    Luftwaffe salt/pepper well:

    Luftwaffe cup/saucer:

    SS-marked soup bowl:

    Waffen SS large mug:

I have many other pieces of this plain, white ceramic mess-hall dinnerware. I don't know why it caught my fancy...just did. I didn't collect it because I believe in Naziism...rather I saw it as a part of our history...maybe even one of our greatest triumphs over evil.

I bought almost all of it off of eBay 12-14 years ago. Now it can't be sold on eBay because it's "hateful and promotes intolerant activities and ideals" according to the email I received from eBay.

Hell...I thought it just sat in a box in my basement.
