    Default Birth of a raider

A very short story that is worth a read.

The author was an interesting fellow, may he rest in piece and continue to make people think.

Wow! That was a terrible story this evening.

The "old" farmer should have been more paranoid

Interesting story. I think all the parties in the story are destined to lose.

The Raiders will eventually try to raid the wrong house and pay with their lives. But for those who choose to bug-in, all it takes is somebody hungry enough and mad enough to throw a Malitov cocktail and your fortress is now a smoldering heap.

That's why heavy weapons platform operators have a higher priority on the targets list.
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Oh definitely agree. I would think if you see one person walking up to your place in that kind of situation, assume there are several more behind cover. But even so, Farmer should have maintained cover and stopped "dude" at a greater distance. Talking loudly is okay I think...there is still safe distance

I thought the point of the story was to ask yourself, "Who is the bad guy in this situation?" This is a unique social situation that can make losers out of everyone, even when you put two "good" people together, things can still go bad.

I don't care how hungry my family is.
I'm not killing innocents to get food.
