DA Trigger Pull

I own 2 XDs and have owned a couple glocks in the past, is a long trigger pull just part of a Double action gun? Is there any work that can be done to decrease the distance of trigger pull and not affect the pull #age?

There is a price to trying to make these types of trigger mechanisms shorter. You lose reliability. The XDs are strictly a gunsmith endeavor to modify. Creek Canyon is probably the best for this. Glocks can be done at home with a little bit of mechanical knowledge and a parts kit.

Neither really have bad stock triggers. The biggest hurdle is relearning trigger press. Letting the trigger only go to reset, feeling the click, and then stopping forward movement. It's impossible to get rid of all trigger slapping, but once you learn to control he trigger on these guns, they can be just as fast as a single action system like a 1911.

Ultimately, the 1911 trigger mechanism is the dark side; quicker, easier, more seductive. You can't replicate it's feel in any DA gun no matter how hard you try.

Well you said it right there. I love my XDs but have been shooting my Kimber 1911 and looking for another 1911. I started wondering if I could duplicate the 1911 trigger pull / crisp break on my XDs.

It's form and function over feelings and fluff.

Apples to orange comparison Glock v XD. Glock is almost a "Single and a half" action- the striker is partially cocked by racking the slide and is only fully cocked upon pulling the trigger-that is why you cant get rid of the take up on a Glock the way you can a 1911 or XD.
XD is a true single as the striker is fully cocked by racking the slide so you can eliminate a good bit of take up.
Either can be cleaned up to a crisp and predictable break though.

It took me some range practice to get used my XDM over my 1911s too. I had the problem alot of people had, low and to the left as I recall. I have seen a couple of different trigger kits available for them, and have pondered about doing a change on it, hopefully to decrease the travel, even just a little. From the reading I did, it didnt seem too hard, as long as you had some mechanical apptitude. Then again, I still havent done anything with it either,lol. I bought some snapcaps, and practiced aiming and got to where the gun did not move as I pulled the trigger.

Just tossing this in, but the best DAO trigger I've shot was on my old Sig P250 .40SW. Loved the pull on that thing for being double action

That P250 is very nice. Reminds me of a nice revolver with a lot more than six in the cylinder. I would like to try it in sub-compact to see if it affects the grouping.

Sig P250 C .40 - D/A trigger is great. Big diff between it and glock or Xd is instead of all the takeup of nothingness before it finally starts to break you have a smooth "pull" from the start....Love it.
