Hope she recovers soon and I realize that this is her job, but really?

To me, this is no different that those Americans going into Mexican border towns and getting killed, Journalists going into N. Korea and getting captured, those dumb-@$$ed kids who decided to hike along the Iraq/Iran border and were captured by the Iranians.

I have ZERO pity for any of them. American passports should have a standard disclaimer in the front indicating that if you are dumb enough to put yourself in potential (however remote) harms way, no one in the U.S. is going to come to bail you out.

I agree that stupid is as stupid does.

but this was a woman doing her job, and I don't blame her for her rape.

the blame rests with the egyptians.

If I stand in the middle of a swarm of angry hornets I'd be a fool to not expect to get stung. People aren't as nice as hornets.

There are a couple of good write-ups about her. Sounds like shes dedicated to the job and based on where she's been, is well aware of the dangers of being a foreign correspondent in war zones.

The latest I read is that she is with family and "vows" to be back to work within a couple weeks...

Sounds like a strong woman who understands the risks and willing to risk it for what she believes in...

she wasn't pulling babies from a burning Building, She wasn't wielding a great sword against an oppressive regime.
She knowing went there to sensationalize the VIOLENT non-democratic overthrow of a president.

with every job there are inherent risks, we have to balance these risks not only with reward but also against our moral compass. otherwise we would all be pimps and drug dealers.... or media sensationalists.

I think what happened is horrible, the Egyptians responsible are wrong for doing that. But I Also know that while I was in Kuwait, when shit got hairy, I Had the ready bag with plane tickets and I always had 3 routes out.

I would classify this as Needlessly placing ones self in harms way for selfish gain.

One question...is this chick complaining about what happened to her? Is she all up in arms asking for an apology from Egypt and suing the pants off everyone for what happened to her? I do not know. But, if not and she simply says she'll be back to work soon like an earlier post said, then it's a non-issue. She did her job, knew it was dangerous, got hurt doing it and isn't bitching about it.

I'm not going to praise her for going to a dangerous place to do her job nor am I going to ridicule her for going to a dangerous place to do her job. But I will say good for her for manning up and not bitching about a situation she put herself in. Many other people in this country would sue their employer for letting them go there and never work a day again living off the settlement.

If she does sue, then we can call her every name in the book.

What's wrong with that? As long as her actions didn't hurt someone else and she takes the responsibility her putting herself in harms way then what's the issue?

Im Tired of this being drug through the streets and media circuits like some sort of banner.
I have had to unsubscribe to many news feeds because I am tired of hearing about her.
There is a benefit dinner planned somewhere for this shit to cover her expenses? It's like some sort of bleeding heart parade.

No one is crying 1/2 as many tears for the Civilians and DOD Employees that DIE everyday supporting OEF and OIF. That's a Reason to be in Harms way with reasonable safety precautions.

This Lady goes into a known volatile situation AGAINST the advice of the State department solely to get a story of a violent Islamic revolution.

this is why women should also not be in combat units. not because they cant, because they shouldnt.

remember the rescue they had for the airforce chick? they put countless lives at risk for her. would they have done that for just a regular joe? maybe. but the risk of rape is amplified for women in bad places.

She made an unfortunate choice. Putting herself in that situation should have been a no-brainer. That said, best wishes to her.
