    Default FedEx Are Retards!

(I just had to say that.)

I went to my local FedEx depot to ship an 1884 Trapdoor to someone back east, but not NJ. He'd sent me a C&R FFL but I didn't bring it since this was an antique. The clerk told me I can't send a firearm to an individual. I pointed out that it was an antique and such rules did not require a license but no go so I requested to talk to a manager. He was worse. He said that any functional firearm or one that could be made functional can only be shipped to a dealer. Age did not matter. It did not matter how old. I asked if this applied to muzzle loaders and he said yes. (I think he was winging it here.) I asked him about C&R FFL's and he said they are not entitled to receive a firearm of any sort.

I wasn't going to win this so I went to UPS and shipped it and asked them about their rules and they are what I thought. Antiques are exempt and more modern go to licensee, dealer or C&R.

Has FedEx changed its rules or are they vague enough that an anti-gun clerk can find some goofy rule to apply. This is the depot in Englewood, off Havana. I'm going to look at their online stuff and see if I can find a place to complain. It plain pissed me off.

I think the clerk was just being a jerk and the manager backed him up since I'm not a big customer.

It has to be Fedex overnight and you must show your C&R copy. Unless their rules have changed over the last 2 years.

That's for handguns. UPS started the policy years ago to make more money and cut down theft by employees. FedEx jumped right in.

I was also going by the idea that anything pre-1899 is not a firearm by fed rules. In usual transfers the feds insist the receiver be a licensee. It gets the guns on the books. There are no books for antiques.

You could also just take the C&R paperwork he sent you with you and say it's an FFL...they wouldn't know the difference.

For long guns you can also go USPS for a lot less expense.

I used to live in the Springs and had a C&R FFL at the time. I was on a first name basis with those ladies and they were a pleasure to deal with. They helped trace stolen & lost items and really went the extra distance. Even though the depot was further I went there instead of FedEx because of them.

Don't tell them its a gun. As long as you know the rules and are in the right they'll never know the difference. I made that mistake at the Post Office once. The guy tried to tell me the firing pin had to be removed, so i tried to compromise with him and take out the bolt. that wasn't good enough for Mr. Gun expert. So I went to Fed-ex kept my mouth shut and off it went.
