Default Glock 21 or Sig P220??

Hi guys... I went up shooting "North" a couple of months ago when I met you guys, one of you gave me the website, so I figured I would check it out.

On another note... I am looking to purchase a new pistol next tuesday... And I'm having an unbelievably hard time deciding between the glock 21 and sig P220.

I like the Sig's looks better, and I also read that it is slightly more accurate than the glock. The 'man' at the gun store also told me that Sig's are far better pistols. I owned a sig sp2340 and recently sold it for cash(for the new one), and I was not THAT satisfied with it. But I am expecting the P220 to be hopefully a little bit better crafmanship.

The glock 21... Well, In september I'm leaving for the Army, with a opportunity to get into the Rangers... And I recently heard they are going to switch to glock 21's for their service pistols. So my only real reason is to buy the glock because that's what I will have in combat(god forbid). I own a glock 26, and I am really impressed with it's exceptional accuracy... despite it's 3.26 inch barrel(I think). I don't know if getting the glock just because I may have it in the army is a good enough reason.

Also, the Sig only holds 8 rnds, you have to buy a high cap magazine to get the 10. The Glock has 13 rnds right from the start.

I love both of the guns... So I am looking for opinions, and knowledge from owners of both...

Thankyou in advance for your replies!
    Sincerely,
    Aaron

    Hi Aaron and Welcome.

I don't have any experance with the Sig. I do have the G20 which is the "Twin" of the 21, They're identical except the caliber. I like it, I never have had any problems with it. it is big the same size as a full sized 1911A1.

I know there are a couple of guys with Sig's on the Board, I don't know if they're 220's,or not. so maybe they could clue You in as too it. If not,Sigfourm.com is an excellent source of info on the Sig, one of the Co-owner's is a member here.

Thank you for your response! Yes, I do love the glocks... And although I've never done it, all the magazines tests of 100's of thousands of rounds in torture tests are a sure testament to their reliabiltity.

One of my worry's is the thick grip, my hands are... well, quite small . So... We will have to see. I also have a post on the sig forums website, but I havn't heard anything yet.

    Thankyou for your time,
    Aaron

    Hey Aaron.

I am one of those guys with short fingers and small hands..the big frame glocks are just too big for me..I can shoot the smaller framed glocks alright, but there is something about them I do not like..

I don't have a Sig220 right now, but a buddy of mine does..he carries it as his duty gun..one day at the range we were goofing around and I asked if I could shoot his 220..

I was surprised that it fit my hand and I pulled up on one of our targets at 15 yards and shoot two shots touching in the upper A/B zone..I was impressed..

there are still other guns I prefer over either the Glock or the SIG..but when the time comes, I probably will get a SIG

Thankyou eerw... That helps, believe it or not. Right now I'm leaning toward the sig. It just... looks more classy, and I also think the slim handle will fit my hands better, as you said. And... 8+1 shots should be enough to hit what I want. Ha.

Just from the sounds of things if you have small hands I would probably go with the SIG. You might have a hard time shooting the G21 accurately. But I would buy which every one feels better in my hand.

Hey guys, I just wanted to thank you all- you've been very helpful. As of right now, I'm leaning toward the sig... But who knows, time will tell. I am hoping that the Ranger batt. I get assigned to will allow me to carry a sidearm, Not that I will ever use it- but it would be nice to have one 'just in case'.

I may just buy the sig for personal use and range time, and if I do end up being able to carry a sidearm into missions I will probably buy a glock, just so the finish doesn't get messed up.

I have not seen the gun personally yet, and from what I've seen the two tone models have tactical rails... or am I wrong? The guy quoted it at about $760 I believe, 2 8 rnd magazines with it.

Whether I decide to go glock or sig, I am excited about the purchase. I already ordered 2000 rnds of .45 ammo, hoping that it arrives on time.

    Keep me posted!

This is a no brainer. Forget name and features. If it doesn't fit your hand its not for you. I'm a Glock fan, but I'd sooner trade a gun I could shoot for a Glock I couldn't.

If you can try before you buy. If not, then get the one that fits you better.

Well... I thought I would tell you all. I went to the gun store today, all the way in aurora, I couldn't wait until tomorrow. I looked at the sig.... And then I looked at the glock. I held both... carefully considered....

It's hard to decide between two fine hand guns... Very hard. The price tags.... were not the same. Haha. But after holding them, I realised that I could only shoot one of them the best, and that was the sig. I liked the all metal... "sorta 1911" style. And so I gave in. Sig P220, two-tone, two 8rnd magazines, one silver- one black. '

I'm sold. I love it. I can't wait to shoot it.

I had a 220 in 38 Super and 9x19. Too big and heavy for an 8/9 shot. Holding on any of the large frame Glocks is like shaking hands with a 2x4 for me, and I have long fingers.

Unless you are against a 1911, consider one of those.

Rangers, Glock 21? I will believe it when I see it. Who told you that? If it was a recruiter, then my point is made.

If your goal is to be a better shooter in the Military, get a Beretta 92 and a full size AR-15. Put a lot of ammo downrange and get some good instruction on how to do it right. Perfect practice makes perfect.
