I'm a dog owner / lover to the nth degree, to the extent there is about 52% of the human population I would rather shoot dead [some I'd do with a smile] before I ever shot a dog, attacking or otherwise. That said; I would have done it too based on the reported circumstances and presuming that to be an accurate portrayal of events.

Bad day all-around, especially for Flato.

Big bummer. I've known several mastiff breeds. They have all been wonderful dogs. I wonder (wander?) what got this one aggitated at the greyhound. Oh well, they are still animals. Sad situation. I think the greyhound owner was in his right though. Shouldn't walk a dog you can't "control" - simply meaning a 150+lb dog probably isn't the best bet for a frail old lady type.

I'd have to agree with Cebue... there are certain humans I'd rather put down before dogs, lol.

I love dogs more than most humans but if your dog gets loose or you don't leash it... you get what you get. I've been told several times that the large dog with hackles up struggling against the leash to get to my dog is "nice".

Your dog attacks my dog, unprovoked on my dogs part, I don't care how "sweet" it is normally, it won't walk away.

Ms. Martinez sounds just like the folks who claim their Children's innocence after breaking into someones house and getting shot. Amazing, and I too love dogs.

That's too bad, they are pretty good dogs usually. A few years ago we had to shoot one at work when out of no where it just snapped and bit half the owners face off (not literally but close). We had really no other option. But I believe any dog can snap and anyone should just be careful. Certain breeds just get bad names it seems

The humane society is going after the shooter which is b.s. We really need to back this guy. I feel my GSD is a member of my family and is treated as such. If another dog was tearing into him I wouldn't hesitate to shoot it. I don't understand what is more in-humane shooting the dog or letting the other tear the grey hound to shreds. The Humane society needs a reality check here and we need to give it to them. I'm looking for a number to call or an email to respond to on this matter.
