So..."how's this been workin' out for us?" Merida Initiative

"Obama and Calderon were also expected to discuss U.S. aid to help support Mexico in the drug war, something Obama touched on at the press briefing. A senior administration official said the U.S. plans to speed up implementation of the $1.4 billion Merida Initiative, with $900 million to be doled out by the end of the year. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity in order to preview the announcement.

First, I'm not pinning this on Obama and Second, much broader than just Mexico.

I "get it, deeply, US green-backs get spent," above board and under, that's the way the world works but...this thing [the Merida Initiative] just continues to "feel like financial pornography" from my weak vantage point. I'd really like to be the figurative "fly-on-the-wall" watching this next $900M being "dispersed."
