Leaving a gun really can happen happen by mistake. I was working on an FBI agents car in my shop. It took about 45 min to make the repair. She paid the bill and left. I noticed a little while a small book type bag. I opened it up and found she had left her gun behind. I called her up and she came back and got the gun. She apologized and said she was an FBI agent. I told her it was no big deal. She never came back. Was it my service? haha

Sure it CAN happen, but it shouldn't. I don't see any reason, or excuse for leaving a firearm anywhere, by mistake. When you have a firearm on your person, it needs to be treated differently than your keys, wallet, cell phone etc.

You have the makings of a fine internal affairs agent. You would see all kinds of reasons and hear all kinds of excuses, and almost everything is a mistake or someone elses fault.

Some states have enacted laws which criminalize the act of leaving a loaded firearm in any location where a minor could gain access. I am not aware of any such laws in Colorado, so if this is your gun, please go pick it up before it becomes a manhole cover.

Certainly the timing of this incident, along with the father's willingness to make a public statement critical of gun owners to the press, is highly suspect.

However, this sort of thing is not unheard of. Happens to plainclothes and off duty law enforcement officers with clip-on IWB holsters every now and then.

Something is not right. Although I have gone into bathroom stalls and found a pager or later on cellphones. Good thing I found it too. What if some nutbag found it and used it club someone to death. I thought people who believe in free speech are suppose to be responsible. Good thing it wasn't a assault book like war and peace. Those things are heavy.

sometimes people forget things. the guy got ready for a wicked growler and after a labor intensive workout, he was late to class and took off quick, maybe he was texting on his cell, pulled his pants back up and took off to rail some chick who was lonely.

you don't know the situation. accidents happen. just be glad he wasn't fondling it and had one in the chamber, then had a ND and shot some kid washing his hands.

at least the finder of the gun was good enough to turn it in, instead of taking it. no harm done.
